Spice Up Your Living Space

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UW Stout chapter.

As a college student, you are constantly moving from place to place.  It seems like a permanent place only exists for a year at most until your lease is up and then it is on to the next. Here are some tips for decorating your small space at a relatively cheap price:

Plants

Having a potted plant friend is the best way to add some color and a little more life to your room!  Whether it be a small, prickly cactus, a green, leafy, and luscious plant, or a bright flowering plant to add a pop of color is the perfect thing.

Art

Grab your friends, a canvas or two and some paint!  Even if you aren’t an artist, you can create simple designs to hang on your walls.  It adds a little more color and design to your wall for a great price. You can always buy some cheap art at thrift stores too.

Pictures

Photo frames with your pals from back home and your wonderful family are the perfect addition to your space. It is a great reminder of home and all your favorite memories. Whether you hang them on the wall, keep them on your desk, or stick some on your mirror, they are easy to find and keep a smile on your face whenever you see them.

Tapestry

Although these can be a bit more expensive, they add so much to a big, plain wall, adding color and design to a boring space.  Keep an eye out for a good sale to spruce up that ugly wall!

Lights

Fairy lights are a relatively cheap and fun way to add something to your room.  A lot of dorm rooms are pretty dark and having extra lights are a great way to make your room more relaxed and enjoyable.

Mirrors

Hanging a mirror on the wall is an awesome way to make a room feel bigger while adding something simple, but not boring to your wall.  They come in many different styles and have many kinds of frames that you can find one to match any type of space.
