Why We Love Ben & Jerry’s

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UVM chapter.

With free cone day quickly approaching on April 14th, lets talk about the world’s most delicious Ice cream: Ben & Jerry’s. These two wonderful men have been through it all with you. Break-ups, birthday parties, and the occasional midnight snack because you decided it was time to embrace the “treat yo’ self” revolution. And to think it all started right here in Burlington. From their humble beginnings in 1978 to distributing ice cream all over the world, Ben and Jerry’s continues to impress us as they have incorporated global interests far beyond the scope of marketing their product. Here are some of the ways Ben and Jerry’s is doing their part in keeping our bodies safe, and taking the initiative to leave the world as they found it.

They Support GMO Labeling

Here in Vermont, we are lucky enough to live under a legislation that supports the labeling of Genetically Modified Organisms. Ben and Jerry’s stands by the movement for transparency in food products through mandatory GMO labeling.

Climate Justice Initiatives

Ben and Jerry’s not only understands the importance of protecting our environment but is also taking it into their own hands by working to reduce their carbon footprint as a company.

Social Justice & Marriage Equality

The company has long since stood by their firm belief that all people deserve full and equal human rights. Whether it’s through raising awareness on the issue or through their internal policies, they are working to create a fair and safe world for people of all backgrounds.

If you want to learn even more about the great things that Ben & Jerry’s is doing why not take a trip up to the Factory store in Waterbury to take a tour! Daily tours run each hour from 10am-6pm. Spoiler alert: on said tour you may or may not be given a taste test from a fresh batch of the world’s finest ice cream!
