My Life is GrUV: UVM Comes to Life

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UVM chapter.

It’s that time of year again! UVM students flock from their heated dorms, classrooms and library out into the sunshine. If you think the beginning of April isn’t actually that warm, you’re right, it’s only about 45 degrees. However, after months and months of freezing cold, it almost feels like summer. As the sun melts the rest of the snow, and the ground finally thaws, UVM students come out to play. On central campus, you’ll see a group of students reviving their slack-lining skills between two large trees. Slack-lining has a huge following at UVM: students tie a wide, thick rope between trees and then attempt to use their balance to walk across it.

In front of the Bailey Howe library, students strip off layers, relax, and socialize on the wide concrete steps. All over campus, people are taking their homework outside and lying on beach towels with their laptops. The grassy area between the Davis Center and the library are the most popular, along with the green in front of Chittenden, Buckham and Wills. On Athletic campus, the stone amphitheater overlooking the green mountains is a favorite for musicians. When the weather warms up, you can often hear the strum of a ukulele or guitar. On Trinity, students emerge from their dorms to lie out in the sun, wear shorts and t-shirts, and listen to summery tunes.

Seeing all these tank top and sandal-clad students doesn’t mean we’ve forgotten what season we’re in; we’re just celebrating the end of a bitterly cold winter. So get out your flowing skirts and make a new spring playlist! Let’s all enjoy our campus and beautiful natural environment as it comes to life.
