My Life Is GrUV: Get Crafty With Beer Bottles

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UVM chapter.

11:48 Sunday morning.

Your desk is littered with the usual assortment of beverage cans. Faint recollections of how they ended up in that pyramid on top of your calc book boggle your mind.

How to dispose of the mess?

Well, before you sneak the bottles to the nearest trash room, consider the potential crafts beaconing on that massive piece of furniture engulfing 1/3 of your dorm room. That’s right. Getting crafty with the recycled goods of Saturday night’s festivities. Topnotch hangover cure/procrastination tool, eh?

So here’s the idea. Take that glass bottle idly hanging out on your desk; take some candle wax, and voila- a college kid’s homemade candle. It’s simple! Here’s what you’ll need:

  • Any glass bottle (with narrow neck)

  • Candle Stick of your choice

  1. Clean out bottle with warm water and soap
  2. Take candlestick, shorten it to desired length
  3. Using a lighter, heat the wax at the non-wicked end of the candle
  4. Fit the candlestick into the neck of the bottle

(Make sure at least an inch of the candle is inside the neck of the bottle)

5.    When the candlestick feels sturdy and secure, light the wick!

The more the candle burns, more wax will melt on the side of the bottle, creating a totally unique and rustic looking candle!

Try alternating colors of the candle wax for a rainbow effect! (and that bottle of rolling rock has never looked so hip)
