Hot & Healthy: What to Know Before Getting A Group Fitness Pass

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UVM chapter.

Sick of the same routine at the gym? Get out of your comfort zone and get off of the elliptical. (Let’s be real: you can only use that machine so many times before you lose motivation). Or maybe you don’t even have enough motivation to get your butt out of bed and to the gym. If you are looking for a new way to get in shape and stay active, you might want to start thinking about an alternative to the same exercise equipment that you use everyday. How about a Group Fitness Pass? If you didn’t get a chance to try them out during the free week, or if you are feeling a little skeptical about the idea, here are a few things that you should know before you buy one!

There Are a Variety of Classes

Group Fitness offers an array of classes throughout the day. If you’re one of the few college kids who like to get up at the crack of dawn and start your day off sweating, then you are in luck! There are spinning classes offered at 6:30am, 3 days a week. If you want to try something later in the day, bring your friends to Zumba! This is a twerk friendly environment where you can shake your booty and sweat like a pig, and you will fit right in. If you are interested in some mindfulness you might like the late evening yoga classes where you can end your day with meditation and grounding. Some of the other classes include Mat Pilates, Kick Boxing, Step & Sculpt, as well as a variety of strength classes including TRX and bar sculpt.

You can find a full list, and descriptions of each session here

The Instructors Are Supportive

Most of the time the instructors seem more excited to be there than you are. They are enthusiastic and create an environment that is welcoming and exciting. They want you to do well and feel confident while having fun!

All Levels Are Welcome

Group Fitness classes are designed for you to push yourself, so that you feel as though you’ve accomplished a full workout at the end of each session. You are encouraged to do the classes at your own pace; however, do keep in mind there will be those people who take the classes very seriously. Don’t get in their way. Take a spot near the back if you feel as though you might be distracting to those around you.

It Does Cost Money

If you are a broke college student like most of us, but you think you could scrounge up the money for some solid workout time, you can purchase a group fitness pass online for $65 a semester or $130 for the year. Each class purchased separately is $10, so if you go to at least 7 classes a semester, you get your money’s worth. How’s that for a deal! Get out there, meet new people, and don’t forget, try them ALL. You never know which ones you will learn to love!
