Hot & Healthy: The Color Run Comes to Burlington

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UVM chapter.

A few weeks ago we got to participate in the “Happiest 5K on Earth,” the Color Run! It was such a blast and we can’t wait to do it again next time they come to Burlington. For those of you that don’t know what the color run is, it’s a super fun, and completely uncompetitive 5K run/jog/walk/skip/dance/whatever you feel like doing! Throughout the route there are four different “Color Zones.” In the Color Zones the supportive and enthusiastic volunteers shower you with colored powered (it really stands out if you wear all white). The very first station was the yellow zone and it was an awesome start to the route. The pink station was next and quickly followed by a water break. Then the route rounded out with a purple zone and a blue zone. By the time we saw the finish line we were shocked! We were having such a good time that we were completely distracted; we didn’t realize we almost completed our 5K! Running though the finish line was such an awesome feeling because not only did we accomplish something great before 10AM, we also had loads of fun while doing it.

The whole atmosphere around the color run was energized. Even before the run there was a local jazzercise instructor getting the crowd warmed up! She had everyone bouncing around and shimmying to Enrique Iglesias! No one even realized they were getting a workout in because everyone was joking around and having a great time with their friends! And the party didn’t end when we crossed the finish line either! There was an awesome DJ at the main stage that would organize the crowd to simultaneously throw the bags of colored powered we were given at the finish line. It was quite a beautiful sight, the perfect end to a 5K, and the great start to the day (after you went home and tried to clean all that color off)!

We both had a fantastic time at the Color Run and would highly recommend it to any level of runner! Definitely check it out when it comes to a city near you!
