Leah Gunn ’16

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UVA chapter.

Name: Leah Gunn

Year: 3rd

Major: Interdisciplinary Studies (Commerce, Media Studies, Psychology)

Hometown: Oak Park, California

In this week’s edition of Campus Celebrity we have an extraordinary third year from Oak Park, California. Somewhere between studying for her Interdisciplinary Studies Major (Commerce, Media Studies and Psychology), Leah Gunn finds time to get involved around grounds. What activities is she involved in, you ask? Read on to find out!

What are you involved in around grounds?

Triathlon: the team is like my family. We train together, play together, and have a great time together. Everyone is looking forward to national championships in April.

UVA Riding Club: I’ve been riding horses since I was five, and love riding here at UVA. I have met some of my best friends in the club and the horses we get to ride are incredible. Getting to go to the stable is such an amazing way to take a break from school.

Jefferson Literary and Debating Society: My favorite place to be on Friday nights-we talk about topics ranging from politics to the best condiments to put on sandwiches.

ESPNU Campus Connection: I interview student athletes for different ESPNU pieces. I love it because it allows me to give student athletes a forum in which they can tell their unique stories.

Why are you involved with these organization? How do they add to your experience at UVA?

My life can be summed up into 3 words: riding, running, and reading. Everything that I do at this university captures those three in some way. They give me outlets to explore what I most enjoy.

What inspired you to choose the major that you did?

There are too many things I want to do. I originally came into UVA as a Psychology major, but wanted a truly multifaceted education, so ultimately I chose to create my own major. That way, I could walk out of college with the knowledge that I knew I wanted. It was a great choice for me.

What is your favorite thing to do during your free time?

I put on my running shoes and will call up a few friends. I will then ask them where they are on grounds, and will run there. It is a great way to get a workout and spend time with the people I care about.
