Gordon Willis ’17

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UVA chapter.

Name: Gordon Willis

Year: First Year Major: Politics and German

Hometown: Fredericksburg, VA

What are you involved with around grounds?

University Guide Service, Hullabahoos, High School Ambassadors, Project Serve, and I’m excited to work on the Human Rights Film Festival next year!

What has been your most rewarding experience at UVA?

The most rewarding experience I have had at UVa is joining the Hullabahoos. They have really given me a home here. It’s just a great group of goofy guys who like to hang out and sing together. On top of all the amazing once-in–a-life-time stuff the group gets to do, we get to make people happy with our music. I will never be able to repay the group for all it has given me.

What has been your favorite class?

That’s a tough question. I would say that the classes I have taken through the German department have been the greatest. I spent a summer in Germany and it’s been awesome to study the culture and language at UVa.

What advice would you give your first semester, 1st year self?

This may sound kind of simple, but I would tell myself to take classes that are interesting- not just classes you think you should take. School is much more enjoyable when you are interested in what you are learning.

Do you have any favorite study places around grounds?

I almost don’t want to say because then people might start going there- but my favorite place to study is actually in the windowsill above the L-shaped staircase in the Rotunda. When you sit there, you get the best view of the Lawn.

And most importantly, favorite song of the moment:

My favorite song is definitely “Let it Go” by Idina Menzel. The entire sound track of that movie is awesome, and whenever I hear it, I cannot get it out of my head. Also, who doesn’t want to jam out to one of those crazy remixes?
