I have always been a strict believer in the “look good, feel good” policy. However, since coming to college, I realized not everyone shares my view on this. Preparing for an exam is different for everyone. For me, actually getting ready for the day is part of that preparation too. When I have winged eyeliner on, I feel confident. That confidence is sometimes the boost I need to perform my very best. There are other people who need a little extra relaxation right before an exam. They need to be wrapped up in their favorite sweatshirt and rock their moccasins so they feel calm and focused during the exam. Whatever your style is, here are some tips to hopefully help you through this upcoming exam season:

For those who like to dress up:

My first tip is to pick out your outfit the night before. Having that off your plate ahead of time will help lessen the anxiety. Once you have your amazing outfit on, do whatever makes you feel amazing. Do what makes people turn their heads and leaves you walking with your head up high. Curl your hair, wear a bright lip, anything that someone has complimented you on in the past and will put a smile on your face. You look beautiful no matter what, but do something for yourself that makes you feel it.

For those who like to stay comfortable:

My first tip is basically the same: pick out your outfit ahead of time. However, when you find your sweatshirt, have it mean a little something extra. Wear the shirt that you got on your favorite vacation, or the hoodie your parents got for you when you were accepted to UVA. Find a piece of clothing that will put you at ease both physically and mentally. Now, take a moment to replay that good memory, so it’s right in the back of your mind while you’re taking the exam.

No matter what you decide to wear, wear it with confidence. You are smart and beautiful, through and through. What you wear doesn’t make you who you are, but it can most definitely affect how you feel. Don’t be afraid to show up with no makeup on; we’ve all done it. And don’t be afraid to be the only one there with a smoky eye at 8am. Be comfortable and confident, and most of all, never stop giving it your all.
