As a college student, cooking isn’t something that comes super easily but is a necessary skill to learn someway, somehow in the four years of being a semi-independent mini adult.

As a graduating semi-independent mini adult, I’ve been able to amass a couple of easy tips that I’ll for sure be taking on as I go into the real life/full independent big people world.(photo courtesy of Pixabay)

1. When you’re first figuring out how to become a world-class chef (ha ha ha), make sure you start simple! You need to work your way up to the fancy recipes. The way I started was by a variation of different, fun pasta recipes! It builds up your confidence to actually do real things with other items.

My go to’s: fancy mac + cheese, pesto pasta with chicken and roasted tomatoes, garlic butter scampi… Is your mouth watering yet?

2. Once you’ve built up the basics, you need to recognize who your new best friend is: your crock pot. Believe me when I say that this will be your lifesaver. You put your ingredients in there around 9 or 10 a.m. and boom come home at night and your meal is ready for tonight, tomorrow and the day after.

My go to’s: A variety of vegetable soups, any chili and beef stroganoffs.

3. Make easy recipe websites your new favorites. I live off of these for making 20-25 minute dinners that still make me feel like I’m treating myself!

My go to’s: Delish, Instagram cooking videos, Foodnetwork, ThePaleo Running Momma.

4. Make cooking fun! It doesn’t always have to seem like a chore, make it an enjoyable time!

My go to’s: Plan a tapas night with girlfriends, have romantic dinners at home, listen to music and make it me time when you cook!

I know these all seem very simple ideas but stop living on ramen and pick up that whisk! Make fun recipes because it really isn’t that hard to do. Take that time your body deserves and make yourself something tasty!

Smile, it makes you live longer!
