Smart, funny and yes ladies he is single! Get to know the man behind the preppy attire who is extremely involved around ground, an expert shimmier for the Nupes, driven to help his community and somehow manages to excel in the Comm School. Read more and meet this week’s Campus Celebrity, Alston Cobb.

What are you involved in around grounds?

Currently I serve as Polemarch of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Program Director for Madison House’s Habitat for Humanity Store, Community Service Chair of the NPHC, Third Year Council, McIntire Ambassadors, Collegiate 100 Society, Outreach Student Admissions Committee, and Black Commerce Student Network.

Why are you involved with this/these organization(s)? How do they add to your experience at UVA?

A lot of my time and involvement is through service activities and organizations. I believe that I have been blessed enough in my life, that it’s an obligation of mine to give something back to the community and those who are less fortunate than I have been.

What is it like being a member of the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc.?

It is by far favorite activity that I’m involved in. Not only do I get to shimmy (stroll) and make the girls scream (lol), but I also get the opportunity to volunteer in the community, and have developed a strong bond with my brothers that I’m sure will last the rest of my life.

Everyone talks about how hard it is to get into the McIntire School of Commerce, what advice would you give to students who are applying?

There are pretty much two things that will guarantee entry into the Comm school and they are to be involved, and keep your grades up. When I say be involved, it doesn’t mean that you have to be president of 10 organizations, or even that you have to be in “certain” organizations. It just means that you find things that you love doing and just be really involved in those things.

As for grades, you don’t need an A in all of your classes, I’ve never gotten an A lol, but you just need to make sure that you’re  working to the best of your ability, and the grades will follow. So, in short, just become involved, get good grades, and TURN UP!!!

What are you plans after you graduate?

This past summer I interned with Wells Fargo Real Estate Merchant Bank in Charlotte and next summer I’ll be doing the same thing in New York. So, after graduation I’ll probably do that for a few years and then go into Real Estate Development, or Peace Corps if I realize I hate working.

Something people don’t know about you?

Both of my parents are black even though I have green eyes.
