5 Easy Changes to Be Healthier

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UVA chapter.

1. Carry a Water Bottle

Everyone knows that water is essential to life and is very important to our health. Drinking water has been shown to help people think more clearly and exercise more efficiently. The biggest downfall people have is simply not drinking enough. Carrying a water bottle everywhere is the easiest way to combat this problem because it makes you more conscious of the fact that you need to be staying hydrated!

2. Stand Instead of Sit

The normal college student spends a lot of time sitting in class, in the library, at home, eating, etc. Try switching it up by standing while doing work or eating. This will increase how many calories you burn, while allowing you to straighten up and get on your feet.

3. Park farther away

It’s that simple. We always get annoyed by having to walk from our car to the store, but it could really be a good thing. Those extra steps may just make you the slightest bit healthier. After all, every little distance will start to add up.

4. Silence your phone at night

Make sure your phone is away from you and on silent when you’re sleeping. This will allow you to get uninterrupted, deeper, and more relaxed sleep at night. We already don’t get enough sleep in college, so having your phone disrupt the little rest you do get isn’t great for your overall health. The text, Instagram like, or Snapchat can wait until the morning.

5. Watch a puppy video

I just threw this one in because pets increase happiness and brighten our mood. Our mental state is a big component of our health, so do yourself a favor and watch a video of a cute puppy. It may just make your day a little bit better.
