Cook Out Catches FireBy February 4, 2012 - 1:46pm Fire trucks rushed to the rescue Thursday, Feb. 2 after calls were made from people just passing by, reporting that there were flames coming from Cook Out’s roof. The scary part? The two employees working at the time didn’t even know the building was on fire until after the calls were made. Talk about a bad day at work. Luckily, they made it out just fine! Now, I know what you’re all thinking: what about Cook Out? Never fear, I am here to report that Cook Out only suffered minor damages and will be up and running again as soon as possible. READ MORE |

Shannandor McClainBy February 4, 2012 - 12:50pm It’s well past noon, but Shannandor McClain is cocooned in a blanket on my couch. Like most college students, she catches up on sleep whenever and wherever she can. And with Shannandor taking classes, working three days a week and being involved in several campus organizations, I can’t say I blame her. “An average day for me is very, very busy,” she says through a yawn. “I usually have to be at an 8 o’clock class or in Anderson County for my internship at 8 a.m., so it’s always really early mornings and really long days.” READ MORE |

Evelyn GaddisBy January 28, 2012 - 7:20pm It’s no secret that college is a challenge. It’s even less of a secret that some majors are more difficult than others. I know we’ve all heard horror stories of the work and crazy hours that nursing students have to put in to succeed. Well imagine being a nursing major, dealing with the stresses and new experiences of college, being a part of a UT athletic team, and doing it all before you are even old enough to get your drivers license. Not possible, right? Well meet the UT collegiette who has managed to do the impossible: Evelyn Gaddis. She entered UT at age 15. Now at age 17, she’s just as mature (if not more) than all the “normal college aged” students and is on track to achieving her admirable and exciting life goals.... |

Newest Nail Craze: Magnetic Nail PolishBy January 28, 2012 - 6:56pm It seems to me that fingernails have become the new favorite accessory around college campuses. From cheetah print to neon solid colors, fingernail polish is the new ‘it’ factor. Nails Inc. a store based out of Los Angeles, Calif. has come up with something very extraordinary when compared to the ordinary polishes seen out recently: Magnetic Nail Polish. READ MORE |
Comedian Ben Lerman comes to KnoxvilleBy January 28, 2012 - 6:38pm They say laughter is the best medicine and music is the key to the soul. If both are true, then comedian/musician Ben Lerman will have you on a spiritual high all night. Combining music (quite often the ukulele) and lewd, but always hilarious humor (he’s got a lullaby that will make you cry yourself to sleep laughing), Ben Lerman has caused quite a stir in the New York comedy scene. Lucky for you, the Women’s Coordinating Council has snagged New York’s rising comedian and is bringing him here to Big Orange Country! So if that realization that spring break is still seven long weeks away has got you down, head to the UC this Thursday for a pick-me-up. The event is free – just bring your UT id so they can swipe you in!... |

How to Survive the Winter GloomBy January 28, 2012 - 6:17pm Now that our Christmas wish lists (and our spirit) have come and gone, and all our New Years Eve plans have been executed, most of us find ourselves in a state of “winter gloom”, as I refer to it. It lasts from about January 2 until the first sunny, warm, ‘I don’t mind walking to class anymore and I can finally bring out my dusty Rainbow flip flops again’ day. Some lucky few are completely unaffected by the grey winter days and somewhat dreary glaze over the sky, but others’ moods drastically change. These symptoms include becoming distant and despondent and not having the energy or drive to do anything but sit on the couch, eat some sort of Ben and Jerry’s and watch Lifetime Movie Marathons (I’m a member of the latter). ... |
