Did You Find What You’re Looking For?

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Utica chapter.

What mental state are you in ? As a college student, it isn’t always easy to feel happy consistently. Being happy in college seems to be looked at as something so foreign because of all the responsibilities we take on. A college student has so much to think about, we’re pretty vocal about our academic and financial struggles, but do we ever speak on our internal ones?

It’s until you’re laying down in your bed at night  or analyzing yourself in the mirror that you realize the huge void inside of you. Something that’s missing from our life and we can’t quite put our finger on it. Is it because I don’t have a car yet ? Is it because he doesn’t like me ? Is it because I don’t have enough money to buy the things I want ? All these trivial questions pass our mind, but the answer is no. If you’re ever feeling a non fulfillment in your life there’s never anything a boy can do for you, nowhere a car can drive you, and not enough attention in the world clothes can bring you. All the answers are inside of you, look within yourself and find that missing piece of your life that haunts you everyday.

Repair your relationships with loved ones, take care of your body, level up in your career field and do you. There’s nothing in the world that can stop you from achieving what’s meant for you. Don’t let being a “college student” stop you from repairing your mental state and finding what brings you endless joy. Need a break? Take it. Want to switch majors last minute ? Do it. Want to cut the cord on negative people? Throw out the toxicity.

It’s when we clear all the noise surrounding us, that’s when we finally have a clear path of fulfillment and figuring ourselves out. Our true selves, not the mask we put on everyday. College students hurt so much in silence and it’s exhausting. Happiness and fulfillment doesn’t grow on trees, but once you create or find it you’ll know. Aspects of life like this are never unsure.

Utica '20

Meet Bianca, I am currently a Junior at Utica College in Utica, NY.  I am a Criminal Justice major with a concentration in Homeland Security.  Crime investigation has always been something that interests me.  I’m dedicated and passionate and it’s hard for me to quit things. I get that from my father so don’t hold it against me- he was a veteran and police officer for 20 years.   Growing up in a family centered around law enforcement has helped guide me in this direction, and I will forever be grateful.  After graduation I intend to continue on to law school where I can further my education in hopes of becoming a criminal defense lawyer and later on a District Attorney.  An interesting fact about myself is that I found the passion to be a criminal defense lawyer from watching the O.J. Simpson case.  The facts and conspiracy theories evoked a whole new passion behind criminal investigation that I intend to use in my future.  One of my most prominent moments in my writing career was when I wrote for an online magazine and had my most prevalent article hit 1.6k shares.  I believe in treating people with the same kind of respect and manners you would expect in return, and in a way it has helped shaped my expectations in life.   When you first meet me I won’t be the loudest in the room or the center of attention, but I will be intently listening to everything you say, for what you have to say may have a purpose. I believe in purpose. I believe that everyone is here to help you grow into who you are today and who you will be tomorrow.
