On November 15, YG rallied up the whole valley on his FDT (F*** Donald Trump Tour), thanks to the Complex and Select Sound Entertainment for organizing this event! His show featured Sadboy Loko and Kamaiyah, who also lit up the crowd. The energy that night was filled with good vibes and the spirit of hundreds of hip-hop fans chanting his hood-rat songs. Missed the show? Do not worry, here is a play-by-play of the entire night.

The first artist of the night was Sadboy Loko, fresh out of Santa Barbara – but always spreading his Mexican descent. He opened up his set with his most popular song, “Gang Signs”, and everybody was throwin’ up their hands, that’s for sure. I never heard of this Sadboy Loko, but the vibe he was giving out that night was pretty smokin’! For the rest of the songs, aka. “I’m Still Here”, and “Que Viva La Raza”, I was throwing myself into the crowd, even with all the sweat and blood coming out of those mosh pits.

Sadboy Loko was definitely a great opening artist for the bright YG! He brought out so much energy into the crowd so that there would be a bigger vibrancy for the headliner.

The next opening artist was the vibrant, Kamaiyah! She is from the heart of the Bay Area, AKA: Oakland, CA. Her music savor was inspired by TLC, Missy Elliot, and Aaliyah, and she represents them very well! She was introduced on stage by the audience chanting “Go, Yah Yah, Go, Yah Yah, Go!” and we all went wild. Her high energy and music made everything breezy!

It is finally 10:30pm and the crowd is still lit. The lights go out and you see these introduction lights fading all over the place. Next thing you know, you see a hospital bed in the middle of the stage – where the artist keeps chanting, “Who shot me?”. Well, that was YG for ya.

For those who don’t know who this YG is, his official name is Keenon Daequan Ray Jackson, and he is a rapper straight outta Compton! His first hit single, “My Ni**a” came out in 2013 with millions of positive feedback, making the tune No. 19 on the Billboard 100 in 2013. Other singles, including: Who Do You Love? and “Left, Right” became huge hits in the rap industry.

For YG’s opening song for his set, I mentioned earlier that he showed up on this hospital bed with the words “Who Shot Me?” in the background, which reflects back on June of 2015 when he was shot outside of a recording studio in Studio City, California. His injuries were non-life threatening and he recovered quickly. His song, Who Shot Me, fired up the crowd for the rest of the night.

Throughout YG’s set, there was never a time where I was not pushed around and stepped on. I was definitely in different physical spots for each song, and it made me enjoy his set even more! His hit songs, “Who Do You Love?” and “My Ni**ga” were winners of the night, along with some of his new songs, including: “Why You Always Hatin?”. Like I said about the crowd, I am very surprised that I got somewhat decent photos of YG’s performance because I was in a different position for every single different song, and that was not intentional.

For his last song, YG grabbed a couple of audience members to come up on stage. When they got up, the stage managers brought out a piñata of the infamous Donald Trump. The crowd members that were called up were asked to beat the piñata while “F**k Donald Trump” was performed. Not having to do with my political views, that was my favorite section of the setlist; there were so many middle fingers and voices being shown as this (somewhat?) powerful song came on, and I would not want anything more than that at the time.

Overall, YG performed one of the best rap concerts I have experienced in my life. The energy and the positive vibes being spread around made me even more excited for the next big-time rapper coming to Salt Lake City!
