The Lazy Girl’s Guide to Getting Organized

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Utah chapter.

Getting organized can oftentimes feel like this mythical goal that seems to be unattainable, especially for the self-proclaimed lazy girls like myself out there. But have no fear because I am here to show you some easy ways to get organized and fool everyone into thinking you totally have your life together (even if you totally don’t).

1. Buy a Planner

Getting a planner was probably the smartest thing this self-proclaimed lazy girl has ever done. I cannot tell you how helpful it is to have a place where I can write down all of the things I need to get done and what times I have to be places. It is very important to carry your planner around so that you can write down any new tasks or appointments that come up during the day. Writing down in your planner all day also helps you remember things because you are constantly getting reminded of what you have written down.  2. Clean Up Your Space

It is so beneficial when you have a nice clean space to get your work done in. This doesn’t mean that you have to make every room in your apartment or house completely spotless. It can be as simple as cleaning up your room or just de-cluttering your desk so that you have a place free from distractions.

3. Prioritize Your Time

A big part of getting organized is to make time for things that are the most important for you to do. If you prioritize your time by what is the most meaningful it will help prevent you from wasting your time on trivial tasks that don’t matter.

4. Make Lists

Making lists is an easy way to make sure that you don’t forget things. This can be as simple as writing down the grocery items you need so that you don’t miss anything or even just leaving little notes for yourself around your apartment to remind you about tasks or appointments that you can’t forget to go to.

5. Plan Ahead

One of the easiest ways to get organized is to plan out any significant dates or events ahead of time. Planning ahead can make any day way less stressful. This could be something small like picking out your outfit the night before or as intricate as making an entire schedule for an important day you have.

6. Don’t Forget Me Time

When you start getting yourself organized it can be easy to overlook yourself, so one of the most important things about getting your life organized to make sure that you schedule yourself some time to relax and recharge.

Follow one or all of these tricks and you will be well on to your way to having everyone in your life jealous of how organized you are. You never know – they may even ask you for a tip or two.
