Game of Thrones Season 7: Storylines We’re Dying to See Pan Out

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Utah chapter.

For diehard fans like me (Hi, I’m Sam and I’m a Game of Thrones-aholic), waiting for the next season of Game of Thrones was absolute agony, and we’ve watched the trailer about 100 times trying to squeeze every ounce of information out of it. Season 6 left numerous cliffhangers that have had fans on edge for months as we wait to see where the show will take our favorite characters. Here are my top 5 storylines that I can’t wait to see more of:

Jon and Sansa

The Starks are back in Winterfell! Well, at least two of them are. The Battle of the Bastards was a rollercoaster of an episode that led to Ramsay Bolton’s perfect downfall and now, Jon and Sansa are reunited in their childhood home, though both of them have grown so much. Now that Sansa’s husband (gag) is gone and Jon is the King in the North, who knows what will happen next?

Arya’s revenge

Speaking of growing up, the youngest Stark daughter has really found her calling. Yes, it’s assassination but damn do they all deserve it. Her vengeance against Lord Frey was too perfect and it’s hard to feel bad for him after the Red Wedding. In the final episodes of Season 6, she seemed to be heading to the North but one can never be sure where anyone’s going to end up in this show. After all, Cersei is still on her list.

Queen Cersei

A title many hoped she would never regain, Cersei became Queen of the Seven Kingdoms after most of King’s Landing was blown to bits by her wildfire stunt and King Tommen committed suicide after seeing the explosion. Seeing as how she just lost the last of her children, arguably the only things in this world she truly loved, there’s probably nothing she won’t be willing to do now.

Jaime and Brienne of Tarth

I can’t be the only one who’s over-invested in the Romeo and Juliet love story between the nicer of the Lannister twins and badass Brienne. Jaime’s character has been getting consistently better throughout the show. He’s still a Lannister but he’s shown to have much more compassion and honor than anyone else who shares his name. And judging by the look he gives Cersei as she is crowned, he isn’t thrilled with the way she handled the High Sparrow situation and may be key in reigning her in. As for Brienne, she has all my respect after unceremoniously executing Stannis Baratheon (still salty about him murdering his own daughter) and I can’t wait to see where she goes next and if she will be reunited with Jaime.

The coming Winter

With all the backstabbing politics, and mind games in the South, it can be easy to forget the literal army of dead led by the Night King that is marching on Westeros. They’ve already slaughtered thousands of the Free Folk and many of the remaining Night’s Watch and they don’t seem to be slowing down. After all, winter is no longer “coming”. It’s here.

Daenerys and her new army

It’s hard to put into words how excited I am for what awaits the Mother of Dragons. Last we saw, she had set sail across the narrow sea, with forces of Dothraki and Unsullied as well as Tyrion, Varys, the Greyjoy siblings, and, of course, her dragons. They combined two of my favorite characters by making Tyrion her Hand of the Queen and I think their partnership will be the key to the show’s ending. And, seeing Varys meet up with her after aligning with an angry Lady Tyrell and Ellaria Sand, it’s hard to believe she can lose anything with such allies like Dorne and Highgarden backing her. I look forward to seeing her armies kick the crap out of King’s Landing and Cersei (crossing my fingers). I want nothing more than to see her take her place as Queen on the Iron Throne.

As you can clearly see, I am eagerly awaiting the rest of the season so I can satiate my addiction and I hope I’m not alone. Who are your favorite characters in Game of Thrones? What storyline are you most excited for?
