G-Eazy: These Things Happen

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Utah chapter.

“Don’t be surprised when this tours over and I move here and f*** with y’all”, G-Eazy said to the packed crowd of his sold out show here in Salt Lake City. The fans roared with complete excitement just hearing the possibility of their greatest hope! G-Eazy, an up and coming rap superstar, is currently touring across the United States for his These Things Happen Tour. The tour stopped here in Salt Lake City on Mar. 11 at In The Venue and Her Campus Utah was lucky enough to attend.

G-Eazy, also known as Gerald Gillum, is an Oakland, CA native who graduated from Loyola University in New Orleans, LA three years ago with a BS in Music Industry Studies. He is most known for his rendition of the 1960’s hit “Runaround Sue”.

The show started around 7:00 p.m. with SLC local DJ, DJ Erockalypze. He got the crowd ready for the first performer, Splyt music from Denver, CO. After Splyt music, artist KYLE from Ventura, CA performed. KYLE, who brought the beach to SLC, was definitely a crowd favorite with his song “Sex and Super Smash Bros”.  He also pulled off an epic crowd surf, standing on a boogie board held up by the fans in the crowd. KYLE definitely got the crowd excited and I will admit it, I went home and downloaded one of his songs! The final opener for G-Eazy was Rockie Fresh. He has recently signed with Rick Ross’ Maybach Music Group.

Finally, it was the moment we had all been waiting for. G-Eazy walked out onto the stage in his signature black leather jacket and wayfarer sunglasses. Every girl, including myself, melted. He opened the show with his hit song “Lady Killers,” featuring music artist Hoodie Allen, from G’s most recent album Must Be Nice. By the third song, G-Eazy was performing new music from his highly anticipated album, These Things Happen. After hearing the few songs G played from the album, this music is going to put G at a whole new level. We at HC Utah are calling it now, G-Eazy’s These Things Happen album is going to sky rocket G to complete stardom!

Next, G-Eazy gets back to the music we all know and love. He starts talking to all of the ladies in the crowd, calling them the most gorgeous around. G-Eazy then says, “If I had a super power, any super power at all, it would be to know what women want,” and crowd goes wild as the popular song “Marilyn” starts to play. All of the ladies screamed with excitement because their favorite song is finally on and the entire crowd, guys included, are belting out the chorus. G-Eazy also performed his songs “Tumblr Girls”, “Mad”, “Been On” with Rockie Fresh, “Make-Up Sex”, “Must Be Nice”, and more.

G-Eazy closed the show with his hit song “Loaded”. The crowd was jumping and women couldn’t wait to sing, “She kept saying G-Eazy is her favorite rapper!”

About three years ago G-Eazy went on his first tour with Shwayze and Cisco Adler, and Mod Sun. They played in the small room at In The Venue and now G is headlining his own tour in the big room, sold out! G-Eazy has and always will be one of Salt Lake City’s favorite rappers and artists! Her Campus Utah is excited to watch him rise to even higher fame and we are currently enjoying watching These Things Happen to him. We will see you next time G-Eazy and hope to even take a shot of whiskey with you! HCXO!
