Finding a Good Boyfriend is Like Finding a Good Coffee Shop

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Utah chapter.

Finding a good boyfriend is like finding a good coffee shop. Sometimes you have to dabble in a coffee shop that is too loud, with coffee too bitter. You believe that this is the best coffee shop to ever exist in history. This is because you lost your coffee virginity here, it was your first real coffee experience, an environment you spent countless hours in. While you were hiding away, entangled in the distant aromas of roasting coffee beans, you were far too oblivious to notice the attention of Coffee Break, a distant neighbor to your first lover. You have spent a whole year at the wrong coffee shop because your eyes were constantly caught in a downward glance on your never ending studies. You’re very thankful for the tasty pastries of Salt Lake Roasting Co., the cheap, homemade soup, the decadent cakes, but it’s time to move on.

You discover Salt Lake Coffee Break and suddenly your world is turned upside down. This is the bad boy of the coffee shops. It’s opened the latest and there is always a constant flow of edgy individuals with cigarette smoke coattails. The couches pull you in, enticing your darker side to emerge, whispering sweet words of hedonism and unproductivity into your ear. Your time spent here is quick, it’s a place of fascination and excitement, but not a long term study environment. With the exhilerating Coffee Break behind you, you feel it’s finally time to settle down.

You finally discover Cafe’ on 1st and suddenly your horizons are expanded. Not only is their avocado on toast amazing, but their smooth, lightly roasted coffee brings you back to pleasant times in Thailand. The music is perfectly appropriate for studying, at just the right volume level. This is the place for you, it feels like coming home. This time the couches gently caress your curves, providing a stable homebase for you to rest on. It’s quiet, dear Lord it’s quiet. A sense of peace washes over you as you bask in your surroundings. There are like-minded people here to study and be productive. It’s the right place, at the right time. Five minutes from your house, a match made in heaven. The men are beautiful, the employees even more so. Everything is calm, cool, and collected. Had you never ventured outside of your comfort zone from your humble beginnings at Salt Lake Roasting Co., you would have never found your own little oasis.

Logan is a fellow Ute majoring in Sociology. She is an avid bird watcher, and spends her down time knitting infinity scarves and crocheting wall rugs. Her second home is at Trader Joe's where she can be found endlessly returning to the free sample table with absolutely no shame. Her greatest accomplishment to date is casually petting a wild bird at the youthful age of 3. When she is not taming wild animals she can be found pursuing her latest talent, that is cooking zucchini to perfection, and working on her Instagram model portfolio. One day she hopes to live in a van down by the river.
