The University of Utah is such a beautiful and active campus that sometimes it can be hard to find a place that is serene and not distracting, to calm down and bury your head in the books.  Luckily, Her Campus is providing a guide on where you need to go to study!

Red Butte Garden

A hidden gem to the University of Utah, Red Butte Garden is gorgeous and quiet!  For when it is warm enough, there are benches throughout the garden that would provide amazing scenery and if you’re lucky, some wild life (including the adorable squirrels!).  If it is a chilly or the soon to come snowy day, there are green houses or just the upstairs to the lobby that have tables and art or plats surrounding them.  It is a little bit of a trek to get up there, but so worth it because you’re likely to have the place to yourself!

Starbucks in the Hospital

Unlike Red Butte Garden, this place is all inside and bustling!  Perfect for you collegiettes who are pre-med or pre-nursing and want to be constantly reminded of what you are working so hard for.  Not too mention that Starbucks is life and pumpkin spice season is upon us.

Museums On-Campus

If you haven’t been to Utah Museum of Fine Arts (UMFA) and the Natural History Museum, are you even a Ute?  Well if I’m describing you, make sure to go check them out (free entrance with U-card), and after you’ve seen all the exhibits, don’t forget about them because there are super yummy and adorable cafés that are perfect for studying.  Pro-tip: for the UMFA try to go either before or after the lunch rush for the most quiet and peaceful studying hours.

MHC Honors Market

I know, I know, almost all of the spots listed above involve food, but what college student doesn’t love to snack while they study??  The MHC honors market has delicious sandwiches and drinks while also having various types of tables and couches to chill at and study for hours on end.  It is comfy and quiet and filled with some of the smartest people on campus to help with your spur of the moment questions.

Business Building

One of the newest and most impressive buildings on the academic side of campus, the Business Building boasts modern furniture and a clean space to study and clear your mind.  The main floor has the easiest access to study sections but don’t be intimidated and check out the other floors!  The fifth floor even has a café with an amazing view.

The Union

For this location you have to be super selection because it’s so easy to grab a table in the cafeteria, take your books out and spend the next hour with your friends talking about the newest action in your fave Netflix shows.  For the most productive work, go to computer lab downstairs (caution: it has low lighting that can cause spontaneous napping!) or find one of the circle chairs/table!

The Library

Last but not least, the library.  Now, this may seem like an obvious suggestion but our library has so many cool spots and resources that it cannot be ignored.  The first floor has Mom’s Café; perfect if you are desperately in need of coffee and some lighthearted fun studying with a slightly loud atmosphere.  The second floor is much quieter and has computers in case you forgot your laptop!  The third floor, notorious for the floor that you hardly ever get your work done at, is great for studying in groups and late nights study sessions with friends.  The fourth and fifth floor are similar to the second in that they are super quiet, but are also chuck full of more advanced, specialized books needed for that long research paper or the dreaded thesis.  The fifth floor also has special collections session that if for nothing else you go check out in order to see some old magazines!

All right collegiettes, it’s up to you–we’ve given you what you need, now go get those A’s!
