City Creek Center is ready to bring life to Salt Lake

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Utah chapter.

Looking for something new in dreary downtown Salt Lake? Look no further, Salt Lake’s City Creek Center opened last Thursday, March 22, to over 75,000 patrons.

The City Creek Center joins the old Crossroads Mall and ZCMI Center in the heart of downtown as one. The 700,000 square foot shopping center is located at 50 South Main Street and spans several blocks in the area with living spaces, shops, and restaurants. The $2 billion project began in 2007 and was completed this year.

The City Creek Center was developed by Taubman Centers Inc. and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It has created nearly 4,000 jobs including construction and is predicted to bring in up to $1 million in tax revenues this year.

Stores such as Tiffany & Co., Brooks Brothers and Michael Kors joined anchor stores Nordstrom and Macy’s. Express, Banana Republic, LOFT, and American Eagle transferred to the new mall from the Gateway, just a few blocks west. Other stores such as Sephora and H&M made City Creek their second Utah home.

Eateries include some local fair and chain restaurants. The Cheescake Factory, Blue Lemon, Kneaders, Texas de Brazil Churrascaria and Taste of Red Iguana began serving along side the typical food court restaurants. McDonald’s, Sbarro and Subway are additional choices in City Creek’s food court, which includes an outdoor seating area.

The City Creek Mall is bringing life and energy back to downtown Salt Lake. The stores are fabulous, the restaurants are great, and the center encompasses an incredible aura. It has created employment for a lot of people, myself included, and the excitement around the new mall will increase shopping. It’s a great booster to our economy, and I will be stopping by frequently! Not to mention there’s a creek running right through the mall’s center, a giant waterfall, and the Visitor’s Service desk is located in a pond!
