Spring is in full bloom, and it seems most everyone is thrilled about that. But, if you’re anything like me, you’re still holding onto that little hope there might be just one more winter snow storm. I know, I know, the rest of you are thinking, “are you kidding me right now?” Nope, not kidding about this one, I absolutely love winter. The fact is I would take 30 degree weather over 80 degree weather any day.

Unfortunately for me, and those like me, whether we want to admit it or not, our favorite time of year is coming to an end once again. The ski resorts are celebrating their closing days, and we’re left mourning the melting of all of our wonderful, glorious snow. No more cuddling by the fire, wearing giant sweaters, playing hooky to go ski all day or enjoying hot beverages at any time of the day. Now all we have to look forward to are allergies and that awkward time between winter and summer sports.

However, we must push onward, and so I’ve compiled a list of things that will help you accept winter is over, and hopefully, make it through this upcoming summer season. Maybe a few of these will give us winter-lovers somthing to look forward to.

Camping. If you love winter, then you probably are a lover of the great outdoors. And let’s be honest, camping is one of the most enjoyable activities. Hiking, camp fires, music, swimming, friends and starry skies to admire at night.

Hiking. Try to ignore the blazing sun and hike some of the trails that aren’t as accessible in the winter. You might be able to even take a dip without freezing to death if a lake is your final destination.

Winter Sports…. On Water. Most winter sports take place on frozen water, and for the most part can all take place on unfrozen water as well. I’m talking about water skiing, wake boarding, knee boarding (basically sledding across water). You catch my drift?

Road Trips. With time off from work and school, and no winter storms to worry about missing, take some time to hit the road with some friends and explore the country.

Outdoor Rock Climbing. While you might not be able to go ice climbing anymore, summer time is a nice time to get out of the indoor climbing gyms and onto some real rocks outdoors. The view you’ll get from the top of your outdoor climb will beat those indoor climbing gym views any day.

Payback. We’ve just spent the last 6 months listening to people complain about the cold, snow, and general winter season. Now it’s our turn. Prepare for some whining about the heat, allergies, and sunburns everyone.

Travel to Winter Elsewhere. While it might be hard accepting winter is over here, it might make you happy to know it’s just starting in other places around the world, like New Zealand. So pack that suit case with your winter clothes, and grab your skies, I’ll meet you in New Zealand.

Hopefully by participating in these activities you’ll be able to push through the summer blues and the heat stroke that comes with them. And just think, only 6-7 more months before the ski resorts open up again!
