6 Thoughts We Have That Lead To A Hair Appointment

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Utah chapter.

The smell of expensive hair products and dye fill your nose the moment you open the door to your salon of choice. Various hair and people magazines are spread across a glass table that sits next to a perfectly polished leather couch.

You cannot help but feel the excitement of change release butterflies inside of you. What exactly made you pick up the phone and book an appointment to spend a morning or afternoon in this amazing place?

He promised we would be together forever.

Ohh the break up hair. This can occur when you are either mourning or on the verge of releasing your crazy. Whether you are getting soft high lights or cutting off 7 inches and going fiery red, part of what your paying for is also the shrink service.

Her hair looks great so mine should too.

Whether you are on one of my many social medias or see a girl walking down the street, when you see that hair cut or color that speaks to you there is no turning back.

Life is monotone, just like the tone of my hair.

It is easy to fall into a very continuous, flat routine. Sleep, eat, school, study, work, Netflix repeat. When you throw a hair appointment into your week it turns into something to look forward to and breaks up your routine.

I feel frumpy.

A nice cut and color is only the beginning of a domino effect to treating yo self. Nail appointment before, shopping after, followed by a trip to your favorite bakery and suddenly your sparking again.

I’m on the sixth day of my juice cleanse, I’ve gone to one yoga class since I joined my yoga studio last month, I’m changing my major and saving the world.

Okay this might be exaggerated but we all experiment who we are and go through a variety of phases. There is nothing wrong with a new color to match that new phase, both of which will eventually grow out.

The whether is changing, so should my hair.

In the summer who doesn’t want sun kissed blonde against warm tan skin? In the winter however, the dark cold days lead to dark sultry hair.

I have been in that black swivel chair many times and I have come to realize that changing anything about yourself, especially your hair, should be done for yourself and no one else.

After three years of being with my boyfriend, when we broke up, I dyed my hair bright purple. This was before it became trendy. The girls bullied me at my high school because of it. I received a text from my ex boyfriend telling me how stupid my purple hair looked. This was the first time I made a drastic change in a while. The best feeling I had from doing this was that no one else had to approve but me.

Because of my purple hair, it became an icebreaker for the next relationship I went into. That story is for a different article. My point being sometimes you don’t need to think, sometimes you need to spontaneously walk into that brightly lit aroma filled salon and have a seat in that black swivel chair.

Born and raised in Salt Lake City, Krissi attends the University of Utah studying to become a journalist. When she is not doing school work, she is a part time makeup artist, full time animal lover and spends any moment she can outside. (She especially loves outdoor malls.) She quotes: "Writing is one of the most beautiful ways to express ourselves and I could not be more thrilled to be apart of Her Campus!"
