5 Reasons Why You Need to Go See Utah Ballet Two

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Utah chapter.

There’s a reason the Department of Ballet at the U is well known as one of the top five programs in the nation. It is widely recognized for the great faculty, strong curriculum, and top-notch performances. This weekend’s Utah Ballet Two is just one example of the high quality dance available in our own backyard. You have to go see a ballet at the U and these 5 reasons are why:

  1. It’s free with your UCard! As a broke college student one of my all-time favorite words is free. Technically an adult, but not quite functional yet, this is that awkward point of life where my bank account can’t support my art hungry lifestyle. But add the word ‘free’ and I’m there! I’ll mostly likely be in the audience for every single show.
  1. This performance features new choreography from a few of the professors in the department. This show is a great snapshot of the wonderful creativity and talent that the U is so lucky to have. The professors all have rich, national and international professional backgrounds that bring a wonderful mix of energy and styles to the table when putting on a production like this.
  1. As well as new choreography, there are a handful of variations, or solos, performed by dancers from each level of the department. This is a great way to showcase the skills and technique of the experienced students, as well as show the promising talent of the up and coming.
  1. The Character Dance Ensemble is the bomb. The ballet department has a group of students who devote three hours of their Monday nights to learning traditional character dances from all over Europe. If they raise enough money, they will get to travel to Ukraine and Poland after the semester and perform these same dances. Trust me, you’ll at least want to see some of the amazing jumps CDE’s leading guy can do.
  1. You’ll leave feeling so inspired. Some of the pieces were lighthearted and carefree, others were intense and thought provoking. But regardless of the tones of the choreography, you will walk out of the theater thinking one word: wow. That is the power of dance.

Don’t miss out on a beautiful and enriching chance to see some fellow Utes perform and showcase their passions and talents!
