4 Stages of Getting Addicted to a Cooking Show

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Utah chapter.

Everyone has a show that they can never picture themselves watching. For some of us it’s the cartoons that air at 9pm on Fox and for some it’s cooking shows. Here are the stages you go through before realizing what you’ve been missing out on.

1. Discovery

This addiction can start with something as simple as a Netflix show suggestion. You first start watching and are completely confused by the entire concept. The next thing you know you’re six seasons in and starting to cook with the contestants. At this stage you may start to tell your friends that cooking is an art and that they just don’t understand.

2. Obsession

First you’re obsessed with the food, then the host, and lastly the contestants. At this stage the show has taken over your life and you look for ways to force your friends into watching it with you. The “drinking game” pitch works every time.

3. Love

Not just with the show, before you know it you find yourself in love with the host. At first you think of him as a teacher and then a best friend until you decide you could be married living in a four bedroom house with your two children and cooking fabulous dishes every night.

4. Replication

Trying to replicate some of your favorite dishes. Sometimes this turns out well, other times you can hear the disappointment in the hosts voice when he has to eliminate you. However, deep down you know that if you were cooking in that kitchen the other chefs wouldn’t stand a chance.

Rinse and Repeat.
