5 Reasons You Should Watch Game of Thrones

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UT Chattanooga chapter.

Everyone has that summer problem: What do I binge watch next? Well if you are looking for a mind blowing, keep you on the edge of your seat show, then Game of Thrones is just the show for you. Of course there are some things about the show that can be disturbing to watch but in the end it’s definitely worth it! GOT has such an intense and complex story line that you will quickly be wrapped up in the world of Westeros. GOT has so much to offer that listing all the great things about it would take forever. So here are 5 reasons you should join the fandom.

1.  Strong female characters

The women in this series are just badasses. In the beginning of the series women are very degraded but that soon changes. Clever, intelligent, fierce, and courageous. These women are the kind of gals we can all look up to. My favorite thing about this is something the author George R.R. Martin had to say on the subject. A reporter said, “There’s one thing that’s interesting about your books. I noticed that you write women really well and really different. Where does that come from?” Martin responded with, “You know, I’ve always considered women to be people.”

2. Intensity

There is always a scene where characters are fighting or you wish someone would just hit the other. You constantly feel like you’re in the moment with these characters, which is very intense. The battles will put you on the edge of your seat, but so will the smaller scenes. Every moment, every action, every second will keep you guessing.

3. Characters breaking their socioeconomic boundaries

The characters in this series can start off rich and become poor, or they can be poor and then very rich. The writers show that you might be down about where you are or too comfortable about where you are, but that can always change in an instant. Life lessons woven into the mytical world, genius.

4.  The Shock Value

This series is THE series for shock value. You never can predict what is about to happen. You might be in love with a character and the next minute that character is gone. There might be a character that you absolutely hate and by the end you might love them. This series will definitely keep you on the edge of your seat.

5. The Dynamic Storyline

This series follows so many different characters lives. It starts off with one family but then it branches off. The writers don’t miss a single detail. The story line flows so well and everything that happens has a meaning. There will be times where something happens and you’ll feel like there is no way to continue the series, yet then somehow things always fall back into place in a way you never expected.

Over all you can’t go wrong with watching GOT. There is something in it for everyone: love, chaos, war, villans, heros, dragons, magic, and so much more. So start watching now because there is an extraordinary story just waiting to blow your mind. You’ll be hooked before you know it!!

My one thing that I go by in life is being spontaneous because I believe it is good for the soul and prevents "What if's".
