The Walking Dead Review!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at USFSP chapter.

The zombies returned last night, February 10th on AMC. The anticipated come back from their mid-season break, had a lot of fans on the edge of their seat.

The last episode ended with Merle (Michael Rooker) and Daryl (Norman Reedus) reunited again, only to be put into a ring to fight to the death. The Governor (David Morrissey) makes this decision after Glenn (Steven Yeun) and Maggie (Lauren Cohan) escape with the help of a planned raid by Rick (Andrew Lincoln).

The two brothers are rescued as Rick and Maggie fire into the crowd. They all escape unharmed but the gate is left open and walkers manager their way into the famous safe-haven known as Woodbury. They meet us with Glenn and Michonne (Danai Gurira) at the car and all hell breaks loose at the sight of Merle (anyone who has been with the show since season 1 would know why).

The biggest reveal was when Merle informed the group that Andrea (Laurie Holden), whom they assumed was dead after the raid on Hershel’s farm, was alive in Woodbury. Merle also lets them know that she is pretty close to the Governor.

Daryl then makes a very hard decision as he chooses his brother over his other family that has been with him through everything. They are last seen walking together into the woods. Rick then agrees to help Michonne with her injuries but after that she must go. In the last episode, we see him start to lose it as he kept picturing or hearing Lori (Sarah Wayne Callies). This results in him being cold to a group of outsiders, Ben (Tyler Chase), Allen (Daniel Thomas May), Tyreese (Chad Coleman), and Sasha (Sonequa Martin-Green).

As these four went to bury Donna, another group member, Ben and Allen, have a plan to take over Carl and Carol since Rick is not back yet. This results in Sasha and Tyreese sticking up for Hershel (Scott Wilson) and saying that they are nice people and they could potentially stay with them and survive.

The people of Woodbury have started to go crazy because there is no structure anymore. The guards threaten the residents who are trying to leave and meanwhile, a walker has attacked a resident. These sheltered people don’t know the hardships of what happen after you’ve been bitten so they were hysterical when Andrea didn’t help him. The Governor then appears and shoots the man in the head, ending his misery.  He then goes to say that he is no longer responsible for those people and that it’s his territory now. He’s ‘at war’ with Rick and the rest of the group. Andrea is then informed that Glenn, Maggie, and Daryl were all within her reach and the Governor didn’t inform her. She then realizes that the Governor may not be the man she thought.

Meanwhile, Rick returns to the prison and Carol (Melissa McBride) is upset that Daryl has left the group for Merle.

The episode ends with the group contemplating what to do about Woodbury. They would obviously be outnumbered and outgunned. Hershel suggests that the outsider group could help tremendously. Rick goes to talk to Tyreese but this negotiation soon changes into Rick hallucinating an image of Lori in her wedding dress. Rick starts to scream, “get out” repeatedly and Tyreese’s group backs away and eventually goes outside. The scene closes with Rick pacing the room mumbling to himself.

The next episode airs February 17th, 2013, 9/8 c on AMC.
