Student prepares to study in France

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at USFSP chapter.

At her freshman orientation Rebecca Carrigan made it a goal to be able to study abroad. Two years later, she is achieving that goal and going to France this summer to study at Cité University. She is getting ready to leave in June.

“I’m nervous to go and be with completely new people but I am really excited to go and experience a new country,” Carrigan said.

In the fall her major will be Humanities in Cultural studies with a concentration in film and new media studies. She is a big fan of art and often visits the St. Petersburg museums.

“I’m going to France because I really want to travel. I love art so it is the perfect combination of the two,” she said.

Carrigan chose USFSP because of the small class sizes.

“I wanted a small campus where I’d have a relationship with all my professors, I did not want to be just a face in the crowd,” she said.

In the fall her professor Patrice Boyer started talking about the class she was taking to France and that was when she realized she wanted to join.

One of the aspects of summer she is most excited for is the free trips to museums. Classical paintings are her favorite but she says won’t discriminate.

When she graduates with her degree in humanities, Carrigan’s dream is to go and work for Quiksilver and go to surf expos making advertisement videos to build her resume. After that she wants to continue making videos but more for documentaries. “Then I want to travel with archaeologists making documentaries because I want to travel the world and that would be the way that I would enjoy it the most,” she said. “I would be able to meet amazing people interested in the same things as me.”
