Recap of RHA’S Benefit-a-Bull Fashion Show

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at USFSP chapter.

This past Thursday, USFSP held its annual Benefit-a-Bull fashion show. The event was hosted by the Residence Hall Association.

The purpose of this annual event is to help local organizations with donations. This year, RHA chose DayStar, an organization that helps the St. Pete homeless community, as the organization to give the donations too. Students, faculty and other visitors donated nonperishable food items, gently used clothes, and personal hygiene products the night of the fashion show.

The theme for this year’s Benefit-a-Bull fashion show was “Struttin’ Through the Century;” all the clothes were styled to look like they were from different time periods (the 20s, 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, etc.) The models, all USFSP students, wore clothes donated (for the night) by local St. Pete boutiques. Here is the list of boutiques that participated: Plato’s Closet, So Chic, Casa Thrift Shoppe, Swim and Sport, the USFSP Bookstore, and the USFSP Career Closest.

I spoke to Tessa Wilson, a USFSP freshmen who was in charge of the fashion show, before the event. Wilson said RHA hopes to gain more student members as well as maintain a good relationship with the St. Pete community and boutiques. Wilson also modeled in the show; she said it would be an interesting and memorable experience since this would be her first time ever modeling. In regards to what it’s been like being in charge of the event, Wilson said the learning process was very extensive since she never planned anything before. “The best moment so far has been going to the boutiques with Pamela Johnson and chuckling at the crazy outfits we were able to find,” said Wilson. Speaking of Pamela Johnson, Tessa Wilson wanted to shout her out; “she has worked so hard tying up all the loose ends and I don’t know what I would have done without her help, guidance, and encouragement.”

Hi, I'm Kelli Carmack! I am a senior Mass Communications Major at USFSP with a minor in Art History. I'm currently the Co-President of Her Campus at USFSP, a leadership role I hold dear to my heart. I have some pretty big dreams for myself. I plan on getting into the broadcast journalism and/or entertainment field. I hope to one day be the next Barbara Walters, sitting down with prominent people and asking them those hard-hitting questions. While I'm not busy focusing on my career goals, I enjoy going to the beach, painting and reading!
A Mass Communications Major with a passion for inspiring others.
