Whether you’re a makeup fanatic or you just kind of wear it out of habit, I’m here to introduce you to your new best friend: Boscia MakeUp-BreakUp Cool Cleansing Oil. On a usual, yet always exciting trip to Sephora, I was introduced to this product, and it’s my best Sephora purchase yet. My original intent of going to Sephora was to check out some FENTY (which if you’re interested in doing, be sure to read the FENTY Review on our site), but I’m so glad I left with my bottle of Boscia instead! I’ve used it almost everyday since I’ve had it, and since the results have been amazing, I’m taking this opportunity to share my experience thus far with you all!

The MakeUp-BreakUp Breakdown:

What’s in it?

I’ve gotten into the habit of reading the ingredients of all my skin products before I buy them. By doing so, I’ve been able to narrow down what I really shouldn’t be putting on my skin, versus what my skin needs. So I figured it’d only make sense to share some of the key ingredients of the cleansing oil so that you can determine whether or not this would be a good product for you.

  • Botanical Amino Acids: removes and prevents the buildup of sebum

  • Hydrangea Leaf: cleans and minimizes pores

  • Eucalyptus: leaves your skin feeling fresh and energized

  • Green Tea: cleanses all impurities and refines skin texture

  • Turmeric Root Extract: ease any redness or fade dark spots

  • Avocado Oil: softens skin

  • Aloe Vera: keeps skin hydrated and retains moisture

So unlike most makeup removers, this product is an oil base rather than a soap base. I know, the idea of getting rid of the oil on your skin with more oil doesn’t sound too effective. But by using an oil based product, you actually help your skin! The job of a cleanser is to get rid of the oil on your skin, but by doing that, most cleansers will strip your skin of it’s healthy oils as well. The lack of these healthy oils causes the skin to become dry, flakey, and irritable.

How does it work?

Now I’ve tried a number of other oil removers, and I was not a fan AT ALL. They all left a greasy film which made my pores feel super clogged and heavy. But I was always told that oil is the way to go, so I kept trying. Finally, I decided it just wasn’t for me, so I switched back to my remover wipes…until now! Here’s what sets the Makeup-BreakUp Cool Cleansing Oil apart from other remover oils:

It doubles as a cleanser!!! I’ll take you through the steps of using it to explain.

  1. First, pump some oil onto your hands and massage onto dry skin over all your makeup (Yes, you can rub it over your eyes).

  2. Once all the makeup is broken up (you’ll probably look like a horribly smudged painting, but that’s okay), get your hands wet and massage water into your face until the oil is a milky color.

  3. The oil reacts to the water and becomes a cleanser! Your makeup is all broken down, so now the cleanser will wash it off and clean out your pores in the process.

  4. Then rinse it all off with water! Even though it does cleanse, I would still recommend using whatever cleanser you already use after washing it off. The oil is really just meant to wash off enough makeup in order to not leave your skin with that oily feeling. You’ll definitely still want something to thoroughly clean your face.

How has it been working for me?

*Disclaimer: Everyone’s skin is different, so how the product works for me is by no means a definite for everyone. Also, this is all coming from my personal research and experience and I am in no way qualified to be giving any dermatology advice. Research and consider all aspects of the product before trying it out on yourself!*

My skin and I have never really been on the same page. I have excessive combination skin. I get really bad redness and dry patches, yet still, my skin can get so oily that my makeup is essentially attacked and does not last throughout the day. Due to the struggle of trying to figure out how maintain my skin, I’ve gotten horrible breakouts and have the battle scars to show. Overtime, I noticed that my overuse of makeup remover wipes and oil blotting papers (a big no) were making my skin worse. Because I was stripping my skin of all its oils, I was drying it out, causing my skin to compensate by making more oil than it needed.

Since I’ve started using the Boscia Cool Cleansing Oil, my skin has finally found its balance! With my old nightly face routine, I’d wake up with heavy, gross feeling skin, and it drove me insane! Now, however, with my best friend Boscia, when I wake up, my pores still feel tight and fresh! I don’t even need a morning routine as extensive as I used to. Also, even though it’s a makeup remover, it’s helped my makeup stay on longer throughout the day. I’d even go as far as to say that my skin has become brighter since using it.

Is it worth it?

Absolutely! I bought a 5oz. bottle at Sephora for $32 and I think it’s been worth every penny. I’ve had it for about 3 weeks now, using two pumps a night, and still have over half a bottle left. There is also a mini bottle of 1.7oz. for $10 that would be perfect if you’re just looking to do a test run with the product. If you’re having a hard time with your skin and believe that it’s because of your makeup habits, then I would highly recommend trying this out! Usually it isn’t the makeup that causes breakouts, but rather, it’s the clogging of pores and cleansing products that just don’t get the job done. In the end, find what’s best for you, but if you for whatever reason want to trust me, then the Boscia MakeUp-BreakUp Cool Cleansing Oil could be the product for you!
