6 Problems Perpetually Awkward People Have

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UPRM chapter.

There is nothing better than talking to new people, hanging out with your friends and having a good time at “La Bosque,” but for some interacting with strangers or even with people they already know is not as easy. If you are an awkward person, you might have or certainly will go through one of these situations.

1. You can’t talk to your crush

For normal people flirting might come easily, but for an awkward person (like myself), talking to someone you like might be torture. From the small talk, to making a joke that the person did not laugh at, to making a stupid comment, to showing too much interest. This type of interaction can be much like a minefield and can very exhausting.

2. Making new friends

When you meet people and you click naturally it’s so cool, but when you know someone who has you same likes and dislikes and you want to be friends with that person, is so hard to get into their social circle. There is no such thing as a smooth conversation for an awkward person.

3. Getting through normal everyday situations

Whether it is calling a customer service line, making an appointment at your doctor’s, asking a classmate for some notes or seeing your crush on the hallway, it’s all a nightmare.

4. Going to parties

Talking to people and pretending to be interested in their lives is so exhausting.

5. SMALL TALK

There is nothing more painfully awkward than small talk. Talking to people one does not know and asking them about silly things to not be in silence is just not enjoyable.

6. Not wanting to go  somewhere, but not wanting to miss out

This might not be a thing that just awkward people have, but it is certainly a very present one. You can go out of your way to make up excuses to not go with your friends to not go to this week’s “jangueo”, but once you see the pictures you regret that you said no.

And next week you’ll do it all over again.
