Ode to the Madly in Love

Paola Coral

It’s the way you talk.

It’s just like magic pouring out your lips.

It’s the way you walk.

Like dancing on clouds, like levitating in my dreams.

I wonder day and night

About your aspirations and about what scares you the most

I feel powerless around you,

Held up back by those eyes of yours

You ask me about my day

But all I wanna do is lay upon you chest

You are the reason why angels must exist

‘Cause I can swear I see your wings

I’m terrible at explaining myself

I would rather explode

But you are making me go crazy

It’s like you know my thoughts

I also promised myself not to keep thinking of you.

But how could I not? You are poetry all over the place

You are the art the world should embrace.

I said this isn’t gonna be a love poem,

This wasn’t meant to be about  just you,

This was about me, to prevent going mad,

To escape my irrational blues.

But the touch of your hand wants me to skip a beat

It wants me to go screaming how much i appreciate you on the streets

This wasn’t supposed to be about you,

But really, what else could I do.
