If you aspire to publish a novel, a book of poetry, or weekly blog posts, you know the daily struggles of being a writer. Managing responsibilities while trying to work on your craft can get difficult. Here are five frustrating roadblocks every writer has probably encountered.
Not having time to write
Between school, work, and trying to have a social life, its hard to find personal time. Scheduling time on your planner that will be specifically for writing is a way to solve this problem, but even then, plans are constantly changing.
Writer’s Block
Writer’s block is a truly evil thing. You want to sit down in Starbucks with a latte and write a masterpiece, but when you open your laptop and start to type, you draw a blank. When I have writer’s block, I either wait it out and hope to find some inspiration later or just write whatever comes to my mind. This method can sometimes help you pull a good idea out of something random.
You don’t like what you wrote
So, you’ve finally gotten an idea and finished what you started writing. There’s a big problem, though: you absolutely hate what you wrote. This is really disappointing, especially if it’s the first thing you’ve written after a bout of writer’s block. When this happens to me, I feel like I wasted my time, and wonder why I even try to write in the first place. Don’t let those feelings stop you from trying again, though.
You got stuck
You got into a groove and think you’re going to end up with a good piece of work, but suddenly you run out of steam. You wonder where all those great ideas went, and why you can’t keep them going. My advice is to stop, work on something else, then come back to it later. Sometimes your brain needs a break, and those amazing thoughts will start to flow onto the page again afterwards.
Getting your work out there
Your piece of writing is finally finished, and your ready to show your “baby” off to the world. You post your work on all your social media, even though you think you might be annoying your followers with your overflow of self promo. But you know what, you deserve to have your work seen!
