Lauren McMichael: Happy With Life and Looking Forward to the Future

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UNT chapter.

What year are you in?

I’m currently a senior and I’m planning to graduate in December.

What is your major?

Right now I’m majoring in Media Art. However, I’m thinking about switching my major to integrative studies. I would like to emphasize in Theater with a focus on Media arts and Marketing.

What do you want to do with your major?

Oh gracious this a good question. I guess in order to explain my major I would have to start from the beginning of how I formed my major.

Growing up I had always wanted to make videos and stuff. In High School when I was on the Dance my friends and I made a senior video for my final year. I was dedicated to the seniors on the dance team. Even before that I would make silly videos with my friends. Doing that is what leads me to UNT where I decided to be a radio, television and film major; which is what the major was called before it was changes to Media Arts.

But then along the way my Dad had gotten me my first Video Camera and he wanted me to make a little promo video for the company he’s the general manager for. After that I got a job working for the UNT Dance and Theater department doing their promo videos.

My Ultimate goal was to continue my passions for film but because of transfers and grades I was not able to take some of the media art classes. But I would always have my camera with me so I would keep making promo videos. So since then I made a really good best friend names Cassie. We went to Weatherford community college together, then she transferred to UNT and I came along after. After she graduated we would work together on different stuff. She and I have always wanted to work together because we have the same vision about stuff and we’re really good at expressing our opinion.

Now we have a goal to start our own production company called Cave production.

What is Cave Production?

It’s everything we would want to do in our lives. We love Photography and we love Film, but we also love Fashion. One day we hope to do a project with Calvin and hire a market. We also want to work with musicians and one day make a music video. And also we want to create a brand and be the face of the brand. We want to be able to sell different product for our band.

We would like to create a YouTube channel and talking about the different ideas we have and express our creativity in short film. We also would like to have a pod cast were we would talk about life in general. It’s basically this entire empire we hope to create one day and my major in build off of that.

Do you guys have any social media site for Cave?

We do not have a YouTube channel yet but we do have a website and an Instagram page. On our Instagram page right now we have different photos of different events we’ve token pictures for. Just recently we did my friend Marlees Wedding, and we did New view magazine fashion show. We took pictures and made a promo video for them.

Are you currently employed?

I’m a paid intern at sally’s headquarters and I edited all of their video there. I’m also still employed at the dance and theater department at UNT.

What is it like at Sally’s?

I love it there. It’s so chill and very rewarding. I’ve learn so much from working at Sally’s.

Working with this company has allowed me to learn new technic and I feel so welcomed there. It’s nice to be able to have an input and be able to express how l thinks a photo should look. I would love to continue working at Sally’s after I graduate from UNT.

Are you in any school organizations?

I’m a member of Merchandising Inc. and new view magazine. I use to be a part of the theater department where I did tech-theater; writing designs, and helps out with a few of the show.

Who would you say is your Inspiration?

There’s no one I necessarily inspire to be. I definitely feel where I get some of my morals, personality, and drive is definitely from my mom. She this increasable person, I really look to her for very sound guidance. I know she’s always praying for my and supporting me.

I also feel I get my drive and my work ethic from my dad. I’m very inspired from my dad in that way when it comes to working towards something, and hard work. He’s always expressing to me what my work is worth and making sure I’m not being taken advantage of.

So based off of where you’re at right now and where you use to be what would you say has been a significant change in your life?

I definitely have come to terms of not caring of what other people may say about me, and I don’t care about the judgment they may have. I probable cared more about other people’s opinion about me in high school but very one goes through this.

I’ve found that through UNT, through the people I have met that I’m definitely comfortable now with just not caring about other people’s judgment. I think it’s because I have such a huge support system around me, and also cause I’ve matures since high school. I’ve learned that life is life and people mature.

A huge change from my younger self and now self is my reliance on my faith. I feel have grown and feel a lot closer to God. I feel like I’m on the right path of letting him guide me through my life and leaving it in his hands. I’m completely happy with the present and looking forward to the future.
