Jorey Johnae Bell, founder of Faced by Johnae, is a makeup guru, expert, and beauty enthusiast. She is one of the many makeup artists that will be at our Her Campus Beauty in Me event, so we sat down with her to get a sneak peek of her work, motivations, and more! When did you start your make-up brand? I started my Makeup Artistry brand in the winter of last year. Previous to that I had been doing makeup for two years.
What is your make-up brand? How did you come up with the name and slogan? My brand is Faced By Johnae. I came up with the name because my middle name is Johnae and I am doing faces. My slogan is “Look for and see the beauty in everyone”, Romans 12:18. I chose a Bible verse for my slogan because above all the things, I am a woman of God first. So I wanted to see what the Bible says about beauty and I found that scripture. My job as a makeup artist is not to cover up or create a whole new face, it’s to accentuate the beauty that my client already possesses. What was a defining moment for you when it came to beauty? A defining moment for me when it came to beauty was when I truly understood that before you put on the lipstick or anything, you need to love yourself, because that is where beauty begins. What are your goals as far as with your brand? My goal with Faced by Johnae is to expand worldwide. However, one of my other main goals is to encourage other young women to live their dream. I am now in the process of creating a young ladies organization called G.L.A.M. which stands for Girls Living and Motivating. G.L.A.M. is geared toward girls ages 12-18, and the organization is all about uplifting women because a lot of times women are taught to compete with each oter. But I believe that it is okay to go out there and achieve your dreams and still uplift another sister to do the same.
What does beauty mean to you? To me beauty means a number of things, being loving and kind. Beauty is confidence and being comfortable in your own skin. Contact information for Jorey is below.
