Rihanna Making History For Black Women

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UNL chapter.

Many people know Rihanna for her fashion and her music, bu Rihanna just became the first black woman to be a spokesman for Dior. She also became the first black woman to have a leading role in a Dreamworks animation move. Past Dior spokeswomen include Jennifer Lawrence, Natalie Portman, Marion Cotillard and more. Rihanna being the spokeswoman for Dior is amazing because rarely are women of color, especially black women, the faces of beauty. Dior was founded in 1946 so this is a very big deal. Rihana being picked as a spokeswoman is not too surprising though. Last year The Council of Fashion Designers of America named Rihanna the Fashion Icon of the year. She also was chosen to sport clothes from the new Balmain campaign and released the hit song “Four Five Seconds” with Kanye West and Paul McCartney. Rihanna will be the voice of the lead for the Dreamworks movie “Home,” based on the children’s Book The True Meaning of Smekday, by Adam Rex. A big congratulations goes out to Rihanna!
