Why I Chose To Become A UNH Wildcat

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UNH chapter.
During senior year of high school, the hardest part of it was the college process. The application process was easy, but choosing where you want to spend the next four years of your life was probably the toughest part of the college process. There are so many factors such as financial aid, campus life, location, and other things that go into deciding on which university you will attend. There are so many attributes about UNH that influenced on my decision to attend the school. Here are the main reasons on why I chose to become a UNH Wildcat.

1. The campus is beautiful.

One of the things that most students talk about this campus is how beautiful it is. You really do get to experience all the seasons on this campus. While I’m walking around campus, I always take a minute to soak up all the nature surrounding our campus and think about how lucky I am to go to such a gorgeous scenic university.

2. The size of the campus is just right.

Some of my critera for picking out a university was how big the campus was and how many students are apart of the university. The student body has about 15,398 undergraduate and graduate students combined. I know that may sound a lot, but after being a student here for three years it’s a lot smaller than you think. The good things about this campus is that it’s big enough where you can go avoid the people you don’t like, but small enough to the point where if you go to the dining halls you can see a couple of your friends there.

3. The amount of majors that are offered here at UNH.

The benefit of going to a bigger university is that there are so many choices of majors to choose from. UNH has majors that can range from Forestry to the most common majors found in many colleges. Also if you don’t end up liking the major you are in, you have a mass amount of other majors to divulge yourself into.

4. The dinning halls.

I am so grateful to have a dining hall that serves an abundance of different choices of food to pick from. I remember touring as a high school senior, one of the most memeorable things was how delicious the food was. I knew that if I picked to go to UNH, I wouldn’t be relying on cup noodles as a college diet. Fun fact I actually gained 10lbs during my freshman year from eating so much at the dining halls, so fair warning freshman 15 can happen to anybody.

5. The amtrak is right on campus.

Having an Amtrak train on campus is one of the things that makes this campus unique compared to other schools. I am a home body.  I wanted to pick a school that was not to far away from home, but far enough to have my independence. Whenever I am feeling a bit homesick, the convenience of having an Amtrak train on campus makes it easier for me to go home whenever I need to.

6. The amount of student organizations that are offered.

One of my thoughts about entering college is that I had to be officially done with competing in a competitive sport, since I wasn’t going to be college student athelete. After finding out UNH had many club sports to participate in, I was excited that I didn’t have to leave my volleyball stuff at home and to be able to continue competing in a competitive sport. Aside from the sports aspect, UNH offers over 300 organizations for students to join. There are so many clubs to be invovled with around the campus that you just don’t know which clubs to join.

7. The people here.

The atmosphere of the campus was amazing. When I was touring the school, the student body was really welcoming and it felt like everyone here loved going to UNH. At that moment it felt like this place is the place where I am going to call home for the next four years of my life. Until this day I do not regret my decision of becoming a UNH Wildcat.
