When Life Gives You Lemons…

Water is one of the most important aspects to a healthy life. Personally, I find it a bit difficult to get the recommended eight glasses every day. Recently, I started putting lemons in my water to help get a little flavor.  Not only did I love the taste, and was able to drink more water, I figured out that there were so many benefits! The two I noticed first were my increased energy and how clear it made my skin! I did a little more research and found that there were so many more!

The Benefits of Lemon Water

– Clear Skin

Lemons are full of vitamin C, which fights against wrinkles and blemishes. Lemon water also purifies the body flushing out toxins, which helps keep skin clear as well! I have definitely noticed this benefit…It works!

– Natural Energizer and Mood Booster

Do you every find yourself dozing off in class or during late night studies? Although energy drinks work well, they aren’t the best for you. Lemon water is said to kick out your coffee and caffeine cravings! It also keeps you happy! Vitamin C is one of the first things to go when you are under stress. Lemons also contain negatively charged ions. This gives your body energy while digesting.

– Boosts Immune System and Helps Fight Sickness

Having high levels of Vitamin C, potassium and saponins, lemon water can help prevent sickness as well as fight it off. People commonly suggest lemon water with fevers, toothache, sore throat, chest infections and coughs!

– Helps Digestion and Helps with Weight Loss

Lemon water can fight hunger cravings because of their high fiber. They also help with digestion because it encourages the liver to produce bile. Bile is an acid that your body has to use for digestion. This also in turn reduces heartburn and constipation.

– Freshens Breath

Hate when you don’t have gum? No worries! Just sip on some lemon water and the bad breath will disappear!

– It’s Still Just Water!

Forget the soda, and juices! They are high and sugar, and you don’t need them. Water won’t feel so plain with a little kick of natural flavor. Try substituting your high calorie and sugary sodas, energy drinks, and juices for some lemon water!

Try it out! All you have to do is put two to three slices of lemon in a water bottle and keep refilling the water when you need to! A lot of my friends are hooked on this “lemon water cleanse” as well! Comment, Tweet (@UNHHerCampus) or Instagram (@hercampusunh) your thoughts at us if you do! #lifeslemons #hercampusUNH
