Valentine's Day

By Amanda Brabec
February 14, 2012 - 12:00am

Every year single women all over the nation dread the arrival of Valentines Day. They feel as though they can’t go out to dinner because the restaurants will be filled with happy couples. They avoid Facebook or Twitter or else they will be bombarded with muploads of teddy bears, flowers, chocolate, and jewelry that other women received from their boyfriends. For weeks prior, it’s the main topic of conversation- “I hate Valentine’s Day” or “I can’t believe I don’t have a Valentine.” Although I understand the angst the holiday causes, why do women continue to allow it to? It’s just another day of the year, so it shouldn’t be automatically ruined by the mere fact of not being in a relationship. Since when do women need a man to validate their lives?...

Having been in a relationship for now almost three years, I have been through my fair share of arguments, fights, and stupid bickering. Regardless of if the argument was over something substantial, or irrelevant, it is essential to have a means to bounce back from the state of being impeccably angry and flustered, and return to an elated loving level. What's Your Makeup Made Of?

By Leah Tully
February 8, 2012 - 12:00am

We buy organic apples over the shiny red ones next to them, turn off our lights when we leave the room and have even been guilty of scolding party guests for dispensing their empties in the regular trash bin instead of the recycling bin. We love being “green” and feeling like we’re helping out the environment while also banishing harmful cancer-causing chemicals from our daily routines. But what about our makeup regimen? We absolutely loathe the thought of giving up our favorite apricot firming lotion for something that’s nothing other than a blend of hemp and granola and sure to leave us smelling like total hippies. But have you ever turned over that bottle and read some of the ingredients that go into making you smell like a “fresh picked cherry”?...

Kicking the Winter Blues Goodbye

By Amanda Brabec
February 7, 2012 - 12:00am

It happens every year. After the excitement of the holidays and the first few snowfalls pass, you’re left with the midwinter bitter cold and wish you could just fast forward to the summer. It’s easy to get into this winter slump, but it can be just as easy to pull yourself out of it. READ MORE

Favorite iPhone Apps

By Leah Tully
February 6, 2012 - 12:00am

If you’re as obsessed with your iPhone as I am, you probably like to keep up-to-date with all the hot new apps. No? Just me? Dorky? Fine. Either way, keeping a screen full of useful icons can make your life a lot easier and keep you busy during potentially awkward moments. The best part about the iPhone is how customizable it is. It’s extremely rare to see two that are exactly alike. Let’s face it, none of you bought the iPhone with the intention of limiting your use of data to the basic twitter and facebook, so here are a few apps that I found either extremely helpful, super entertaining or simply just a better way to waste even more of my time!

5 Ways to Save Money

By Amanda Brabec
February 2, 2012 - 12:00am

College students are always on the go, so it's very easy to spend extra on unnecessary purchases. Whether you're looking to save for a large purchase or just trying to cut back on spending, there are simple ways to do so.  1. Most of us are guilty in overindulging in coffee. Running from class to work to the library always calls for a large iced French Vanilla, but if you add up how much you spend on coffee per week, you would be astonished. Instead of stopping to get coffee before class, brew your own! And if you just can't part with your Dunkin's, you can buy a pound of coffee grounds to brew at home.  READ MORE

How to Reorganize Yourself for 2012

By Amanda Brabec
February 1, 2012 - 12:00am

Being a college student can feel like a circus act at times, having to juggle classes, work, extracurriculars, and for some, even internships. Set yourself up for a successful semester by getting organized before it gets in full swing. First, get a calendar and a planner, or at least one of the two. It helps to color code your engagements by category- work, school, extracurricular, etc. It's good to have a desk calendar or one hanging on the wall so you have everything right in front of you. A planner is good to  carry with you so you have your schedule on you throughout the day. I like planners with weekly and monthly views so I can carry along not only the months events but daily things as well.   ...

School’s back in session and the Hamel Rec Center is ready to rock and roll! Since there’s sure to be a fresh new crowd of Collegiettes who have already ordered their barely-there VS bikini’s along with their tickets to somewhere tropical for spring break, I figured it would be helpful to go over some of the rules of the rec center for those of you who haven’t exactly been “frequent flyers” last semester.
