This is a Man’s World…Wanting to be a Sports Broadcaster

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UNH chapter.

Yes we all can say THIS IS A MAN’S WORLD where women constantly have to compete against men for a job. For my future dream job it becomes a reality.  I have grown up loving sports and when college came around, I saw that I could combine my love for writing, public speaking and sports I couldn’t imagine a more perfect job then to become a Sports Broadcaster.

Women have come a long way in Sports Broadcasting from just another Bimbo Barbie on the TV complementing the sports casting that was done by men. Today they are respected professionals who have been hired because they are qualified. Yet to this day, I still see that women have to compete against men. This is the top 3 reason why I want to be a Sports Broadcaster!

Reason #1: The Love of the Game

Since I grew up watching Sports especially my all-time favorite football, I could never keep my eyes off the TV. The love of how passionate these players are about their individual sport, their sportsmanship, and always striving to win as a team is inspirational. I couldn’t imagine any other dream job besides interviewing these passionate players no matter what sport it is.

Reason #2: Yes I can say it Fantasy Football

As a woman, individuals are always in shock when I say those exact words YES I HAVE A FANTASY FOOTBALL TEAM! Competing against family members, friends and someday future competition, I knew I had to keep up with current sports events. Also who doesn’t like some friendly competition. I make daily trades, constantly watch my players and make sure I know who is on the injured list. Fantasy Football has shined a new light on what it means to be a Sports Broadcaster, constantly having to keep up with players, stats, information and knowing the game itself.

Reason #3: Dream Goal

When I am asked what I want to do with my future those two words come out of my mouth Sports Broadcasting.  I know what it takes to start at the bottom, work hard, prove myself and never give up. I will never give up this dream no matter if it doesn’t happen right away. I know this dream goal is worth fighting for!  Hopes and dreams come in different ways!

Hopefully someday you will see me on the sidelines interviewing the hottest athletes! After all isn’t that one of the benefits of the job!
