Whether you have a boyfriend or a best friend, I can almost guarantee every girl at UNH has woken up in a guys environment. Instead of the “walk of shame”, try a new approach such as the “stride of pride.” All clichés aside, it’s never fun to have to throw on your tight dress or cute boots when its 30 degrees and sunny on campus. Here are a few tips from us (and the runways), on how to piece yourself together using a guys wardrobe.

One of the most common and trendiest looks is the over-sized/flannel or oxford shirt. These two shirts are easy to transform into an ultra-feminine look. Paired with a pair of spandex or even skinny jeans, the tightness of the pants automatically balances the comfort of the shirt. Another way to jazz up this look is a skinny belt. This creates a waste-line, which automatically slims your figure. Leave the top few buttons open, and show a little skin. This is a great look to wear all day from class at Ham Smith to going out. Personally, we both own at least two ourselves! If you don’t have a boyfriends/friends closet to raid, that’s okay, try www.jcrew.com. Their shirts are classic and can be worn by either sex.

Every guy, no matter what their style, has one trusty hoodie hanging (or thrown) in their closet. This comfy option offers a casual sporty look. The sweatshirt is probably the easiest item to pair with a brightly colored scarf (We recommend the infinity scarf from www.AmericanApparel.com) . The more old or rugged the sweatshirt, the more vintage it appears while your sporting it. A step up from this look is a long cardigan or cozy winter sweater. We all know the weather in New Hampshire gets a little nippy, so if you’re looking to warm up try one of these options. These all can be worn with Uggs or even riding boots.

If you’ve opened up a fashion magazine anytime in the past year, you’ve certainly seen the boyfriend inspired blazer splashed across the glossy pages. No matter what time of year, this piece is timeless and can be dressed up for a night out with your girlfriends in Boston. If your man is not too broad, snag a blazer from his closet and pair it with a deep V-neck t-shirt. To put a feminine touch on this look, try wearing bold earrings and jewels. If your man is too big, you can create this look by mimicking the ones on www.RalphLauren.com.

If you want to step it up a notch on all these looks or even with your own wardrobe, try snagging some of his accessories. A great piece to have is a bold faced watch. Whether it be gold or silver, this item makes any outfit pop. The more authentic the watch of his, the better it will look on your wrist. Another great touch is men’s cologne. Now-a-days, the Old-Spice is out, and the Musky scent is in. A lot of men’s fragrances have become more gender neutral, and can smell just as good on you. This scent will look extra fabulous with his Blazer, creating the most classic look to date. An aroma for him that works equally as well on you is La Nuit de L’Homme by Yves Saint Laurent.

Whether worn individually or paired together, all of these items are a fresh way to spice up your wardrobe this winter. Since winter is almost behind us, make these looks work for spring by cutting down the layering or weight of your clothing. Instead of skinny jeans, try cotton leggings or tight jean shorts. Swap your Uggs for gladiator sandals; and boots for sky high wedges. This ensures that his pieces will make it all the way through the warm weather. So next time you are in a fashion rut, raid his closet before making a trip the mall; we promise you’ll be pleasantly surprised.
