The Final Countdown: 5 Fun Study Breaks

Somehow, the end of the semester is upon us, and oh my goodness it is feeling more stressful than ever. Studying hard to get those A’s is of course important, but did you know it is scientifically proven that the average person can only pay attention for about 25 minutes? (Although sometimes it feels like 2.5 seconds…)  After that, you really aren’t absorbing information as effectively as you’d like. Here are some ideas to recharge your brain in between study sessions!

Go For a Walk

Simple! Get out of the dingy library or stale dorm room and get some fresh air! Walk to the Whitt and pose with the Wildcat! Or walk downtown and get some coffee (cause that will help you study too!)

Make a Snack

This one is a no brainer, literally! There are a ton of really good foods that are proven to increase brain activity. Like, avocado, tomatoes, eggs, blueberries, beans, olive oil, chocolate (!!), tea and your favorite, coffee! If you look closely there are several foods in there that come together in great recipes… hmmm do I smell guacamole?? Unfortunately there are also some foods you need to avoid. Things that are high in carbs, corn syrup and sugar are both bad. And maybe a weekend off of partying will do         you some good too because alcohol is also a no-no.

Nail Art

This is a great way to break up studying. You can Google cool designs or just do solids. Either way, you’ll be so focused on making them look perfect you won’t notice the time go by. Then go back to studying, and on your next break do your second coat. Study chique!

Puppy War

On top of puppies just being absolutely adorable, they are actually proven to reduce stress! Best news ever. Get on the same study schedule as your friends, and when its time to take a break, send each other puppy pictures! (Try to use Skype chat or anything else so you stay off Facebook…) Make it a competition to see who can send the cutest puppy picture each break; there will really be no loser though…

Everyone Loves a DP

Whether you are alone or you are with your roommate, a dance party is literally never a bad time. Crank your favorite tunes, use your prettiest falsetto and rock out. Music and exercise are two great distractions that will awaken your brain for when you get back to it.
