PINK Rep Jessica Ibarreta

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UNF chapter.

This semester, Her Campus UNF is teaming up with PINK UNF to bring as much to campus as we can! This week we’d like to introduce one half of the campus reps for PINK UNF. You’ll be seeing a lot of her throughout the semester!

Name: Jessica Ibarreta
Major: Marketing & Logistics
Year: Junior
Hometown: Jacksonville, FL

HC: Why did you choose your current major?
JI: Once upon a time, I was driving our high school valedictorian to work and she says, “I know you have no idea what you want to do with your life, but I think your personality is perfect for marketing.” That really resonated with me. She’s the smartest person I know (Ms. 4.93), and at the time all I wanted to do was escape to LA and attend cinematic makeup school (with my parents thinking I was totally crazy). Coming from a college prep, I was not exactly the most academically gifted person, but I found a lot of my own interests in updating myself with market trends in cosmetics and what consumers really wanted/needed product-wise. So I said, “MARKETING? How genius. I can apply this to almost everything.”

HC: What’s one class that has resonated with you throughout college?
JI: Personal Finance — no, this is not an accounting class, thank God. By far, this is the best class I’ve ever taken at UNF. Tracking your cash inflows and outflows and making the realization that you could have put your excessive Chipotle trips towards $3 online applications that could possibly make your dreams come true (and/or desk organizing tools from Target) was alarming to me. Try free pizza at 7 pm at the SU! Oh, hello!

HC: If you could give a piece of advice to your younger self, what would it be?
JI: Live with purpose. Take risks. Be persistent, but stay humble. I am no where near where I was in high school. I thought that I was limited in every single way and thought I had to live a cookie cutter life. No matter where you are, where you go to school, or how difficult you believe your situation to be, a healthy and positive mindset can take you above and beyond.

HC: What are three embarrassing songs that you are #sorrynotsorry to love?
JI: Oh jeez, let me check my Spotify. “Throw your hands up, if you know that you’re a star…” Sound familiar yet? Anything by the Cheetah Girls will always be a part of my jam.

Currently speaking:
  1. 679 by Fetty Wap is always stuck in my head!
  2. Boyfriend by Justin Bieber.
  3. She’s Kinda Hot by 5 Seconds of Summer.

I’m still not over boy or girl groups, obviously.

HC: Why did you join PINK UNF?
JI: Last year was the first year VS PINK came onto our campus and I was going crazy when I heard all about it. Seeing all of the commotion on the UCF and FSU PINK pages over the years, I was ecstatic at the opportunity to assist Dee and Roderica (the first UNF reps) in bringing this excitement to campus.

HC: What’s one thing that you’d like to see grow from PINK UNF being on campus?
JI: I would like to see the overall excitement for VS PINK at UNF to grow. It is a brand that truly brings quality, accessibility, and utility to so many collegiate girls’ lives. Partnerships with on-campus organizations, local businesses, and charities are on our must list. Collaborations to help grow and engage the community all together are what we’re looking for!

HC: Describe PINK UNF in three words.
JI: Cheeky, brave, and light-hearted.

HC: What’s your favorite part of being a PINK rep?
JI: As a rep, you learn so much. You learn from all the PINK reps (from all 98 universities), corporate, on-campus organizations, and every girl on campus. Marketing strategy is something you consistently develop and involves a lot of risk taking. I’m all about that life. It’s my Skittles on a rainy day. The freebies may be awesome, but what I love most is the experimentation and the sense of community the PINK brand brings within its marketing.

HC: Are you involved with any other clubs on campus?
JI: Sadly, I’m not at this moment. I’d like to be more active though! I definitely want to join the Marketing, Logistics, and PR societies. I tend to work, volunteer, and intern off campus.

HC: Where can we find out more about PINK UNF?
JI: Follow @PINKUNF on Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, and Snapchat!
My name is Maya Dartiguenave, and I am a senior at the University of North Florida. I'm a communications major, with a focus in public relations. Reading, writing, anything to do with words is what holds my true interest, which is why I'm so happy to be a part of Her Campus! I'm so excited to have started UNF's chapter of Her Campus! While I claim to be a Florida girl for now, my heart belongs to Philadelphia, always. (Go, Eagles!) I hope to move away from Florida after graduation, work my way through grad school, and begin my career in publishing. The future is definitely going to be an adventure, and I can't wait for it!
