Campus Cutie: Philippa Meyers

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UNCW chapter.

Name: Philippa Meyers

Year: Junior

Major: Recreation, Sports Leadership, and Tourism Management

Hometown: Pinehurst, NC

Pets: Penny, my cat!

HC: What made you want to foster Sandy and Oscar?

PM: My roommate Lex and I really wanted to foster a dog just to have another dog around the house. Lex’s dog had just died a few months ago and it was just way too quiet, my cat Penny was getting a little lonely too! Since getting a dog is sort of a big commitment time wise and financially, we decided to foster! It also helped that we were going to do it together, that way it would be easier.

HC: What was the process like?

PM: The process was surprisingly simple, you pretty much just fill out an application online with Animal Avengers of NC (AANC). Once they make sure you’re not a crazy person, they contact you and ask some more questions about what kind of dog would be best for you to foster. We told them that we couldn’t handle a puppy yet because we’re not home that often and that we wanted one that wasn’t totally crazy mostly because of our small house.

HC: What is Sandy like?

PM: Sandy is a hound lab mix and she weighs about 65 pounds. Sandy is a protecter and she is always looking out for us. She is super aware of her surroundings and because she has hound in her, she always has her nose to the ground and knows everything that’s going on around her. Being a protector, she’s sometimes a little uneasy with new dogs especially when they’re far away but once she sees them up close and sniffs them she’s great! She loves to go on walks but also will hang out inside all day no problem. Most importantly, she is so so sweet and she loves us so well.

HC: What is Oscar like?

PM: Oscar is a young carolina dog mix and weighs about 45 pounds; not to mention, he’s so so cute. He’s a little shy at first but after being in our house for a day, he’s already totally comfortable.

HC:If someone would want to adopt them who would they contact?

PM: Animal Avengers of NC, check their facebook page for adoption events every Saturday!
