Reasons to Enjoy Every Second of Your Freshman Year

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UNCG chapter.

As I begin my senior year, I often find myself reflecting on my first year here at UNCG. So many times I found myself wishing I was older, and that was a mistake. Freshman year is so full of excitement and opportunity. So here are a few reasons why you should enjoy every second of your first year as a Spartan.

1. Your classes aren’t hard yet. I know you may not agree with this now but it’s the truth. Unfortunately, as you move on through your college career your courses will get more intense. The upside is they will also be way more in-line with your major and future career.

2. Freshmen dorms are great. For those of you living in the traditional first year dorm with the small (and shared) rooms, a large bathroom that you share with all the people on your hall, and limited washer/dryer options this fact may seem more like fiction. But I am here to say that this living situation is ideal for making lasting friendships, so don’t wish it away yet.

3. You don’t have to have it all figured out yet. Even though it may feel like you need to have your whole life planned out right now, you don’t. I promise. So take advantage of all the opportunities to try new things, even if you don’t think they’ll lead to something more. I applied for an internship in the summer following my freshman year that was completely unrelated to what I thought I was going to be doing. It just sounded fun. Now I am starting my third year in the position and applying to grad school to pursue this as my career.

I am currently a student at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. I am double-majoring in Business Administration with a concentration in Human Resources and Women's and Gender Studies. I love my university and the diversity on campus is important to me.
