Whether you’re sitting down to study or just passing through you know where the library is at UNCG. However, it is very likely that you don’t know what the library has to offer. Besides the extensive amount of hours (24/5) that Club Jackson has, UNCG provides a considerable amount of services for its students. If you don’t know about the services the library provides for students then here are some of the main things you should know.

  1. Technology – After signing a technology agreement you will be able to choose from ipads, laptops, chargers, headphones, calculators, etc. Each item is free to use for four hours with your spartan card.

  2. Online Help – The library staff has an online chatting service that is used to assist patrons when they have a question. It’s on the website and they try their best to answer your questions in a timely manner.

  3. Lockers – Did you know the library has lockers available for students to put their belongings in? This luxury is perfect for commuter students.

  4. Carrels – If you want your own personal, permanent study space where nobody is allowed to sit except you, then go to the main checkout desk to reserve a carrel.

  5. Multiple Departments (Reference, SuperLab, DMC, ERIT, etc.) – Need help with a paper you’re writing? Check out the reference desk. There are many departments in the library ready to meet your needs.

  6. eBooks and Databases – If you can’t find the book you want or if you prefer to read material online then go to the library’s website for eBooks and databases.

  7. Textbooks/Reserves – Not everybody has the money to buy a textbook. If you find yourself in this situation then stop by the checkout desk to see if your professor put the textbook on reserve. You can check the book out for either 2 or 4 hours but if you scan it to your email, you’ll have the book for as long as you want.

  8. DVDs – You can only check out two DVDs at a time but there is a wide variety of genres to choose from.

  9. Reserving Rooms/Quiet Floors – If you’re in a group setting, or just want to be by yourself reserve a room using the UNCG library website. Sometimes it’s hard to study for your next test with a lot of commotion going on around you. If you need a quiet place to stay, the 6-9th floors are the place to be.

  10. Printing – The Superlab provides an allotment of $3.00 for students each semester to print. Once your $3.00 runs out you can print on the first floor and choose from four printers after you put money on your spartan card.

There are so many services the library provides for students, faculty and staff that goes beyond checking out books. If you’re curious about some the other services then feel free to stop by the library and ask. They are happy to help!
