UK’s Uptown Girl – Stella’s Deli

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UK chapter.

Stella’s Deli is located on the very hip and convenient Jefferson street corridor. Stella’s was one of Lexington’s first restaurants to really incorporate all of the delicious local products available to them. In fact, almost all of their ingredients are local, as indicated by their mission statement:

“Stella’s Kentucky Deli is dedicated to serving fresh local foods in creative, dynamic ways.”

The building itself looks like a cute little house, something you would find in Key West. It’s vibrantly colored and super cozy. They have out door seating available when the weather permits. Menu items include comfort favorites like the “candy bar sandwich” which consists of peanut butter and Nutella on locally baked white French bread.

The whole scene is colorful, from the clientele to the menu you will leave this place not only feeling nourished but inspired as well. It’s the kind of place that every small town has, we are just lucky enough to have one that is so true to its mission, so conveniently located and such an asset to the community around it.

MY FAVORITES:
The Griff Burger (a local beef patty topped with blue cheese and granny smith apples)
Lentil Soup This is the BEST bowl of soup in town HANDS DOWN!
Lentil Burger One of their many Vegan/vegetarian options, this patty is made in house and you can taste the love.

DO NOT LEAVE WITHOUT TRYING:
The Coffee!!!! Locally roasted, this shade-grown Peruvian bean makes for the most perfect sip of Joe ever. And yes, they serve bottomless cups.
The Lemon Ice Box Pie (This little slice of heaven is undoubtedly the most amazing thing I have tasted in this town. I dream about it. Seriously.) It manages to balance the sweetness and the tartness flawlessly. The Graham Cracker crust is so perfectly crunchy and buttery that you might be tempted to lick your plate. My only suggestion is that you ask for a little extra whipped cream on the side. And my ONLY complaint is that it’s not big enough ;)

** Tip … Try the two together. It can be kinda life changing**
