Stores that Will Give You the Bang for Your Buck

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UK chapter.
  1. Ross (Dress For Less)

If you haven’t been to Ross, you are really missing out. They have very cute and inexpensive items that range anywhere from clothing to home décor. You will not find yourself leaving the store empty handed, unless you get overwhelmed (which happens a lot when I shop there). The items that they have are sometimes name brand at a lowered price, so if you like a particular brand there may be hidden gems.

  1. Dollar Tree

Shopping at the Dollar Tree is not something fabulous, but if you have just moved into a new place or on a budget then this is your place. The Dollar Tree has food, cookware, makeup, cleaning supplies, etc. It is mostly a store for practical items, but if you are throwing a themed party for Halloween then this is a great place to go so you do not have to break the bank. There are also plenty of cheap items for your D.I.Y. projects.

  1. Wet Seal

I know what you are thinking, “Every time I got to Wet Seal it is super expensive.” Well, have you checked out the clearance section or many of the great sales that are always going on? Mostly everything I have bought lately is from Wet Seal because their clearance sections is jam packed with items that are either out of season or leftover/discontinued. My motto is to never spend more than $10 an item if you can help it, lower if possible. If the item is over a certain price then I put it back unless I decide not to buy anything else, then I will consider it as a potential purchase. Also, buying clothes that are out of season is always a great way to save money since sweaters are going to be in high demand around winter/autumn. Buy your sweaters in the spring or summer and your swimsuits in the winter or autumn.

  1. Forever 21

Just like Wet Seal, Forever 21 is expensive in some areas, but have you checked out the clearance there? Checking out the clearance is a good way to update your wardrobe while not spending your rent money to do so. This is also a good store to shop at when you are in need of some tank tops, leggings or even jeggings. These items can be found for way under $10 in Forever 21 so don’t think that you are limited to buying a basic tank top at some other store for $20.

  1. JC Penny

JC Penny also has an amazing clearance section. I once found a pair of beige ankle strap heels for $4! I cannot stress enough that stores are always having sales on something. Always look for a sale or a bargain. I always scan up and down the JC Penny clearance racks in every part of the store then I go back and decide if any of the items were worth the money that I would be willing to pay for them.

The trick is to always budget yourself when going shopping. If you are like me then you love to shop, but shopping is expensive. There are many phone applications that can help you find sales or just simply looking online at the stores website can help. Don’t let your shopping habits take all of your money for bills.

I may never win a Pulitzer, but I will be doing something that makes me happy and I would not change that.
