Every Girl’s Guide to Being a Classy College Woman

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UK chapter.

You want to be thought of as “classy” by everyone here at UK, but you’re not quite sure how to go about creating that image.

Well, check out the tips below to help you become one classy lady!

  • Don’t play dumb. It’s incredibly attractive to men when a woman is both intelligent and unafraid to show it. Never hesitate to speak your mind when it comes to answering a question in class or just a question someone asks, in general. Just remember not to come off as arrogant if you do know the answer to something. It’s important to find the balance between being confident and being a know-it-all.
  • Sophisticated fashionista. The way you dress says a lot about you as a person. Follow in the footsteps of women who always looks elegant and stylish in the clothes she wears. Think comfortable and tasteful, not tight and short. People will see you for a classy woman when you dress like one.
  • Poise is your greatest weapon. Keep your chin up, posture straight and walk everywhere with self-assurance and grace. Don’t be one of those girls who giggle at everything other people say, especially when talking to guys. Speak with certainty and be yourself, but maintain a factor of composure. Now, I’m not saying it’s not okay to smile and laugh. I just mean you don’t need to go over the top with your actions to receive attention from other people.
  • No cursing. It may feel good to drop a few F-bombs at one time or another, but in the long run, cursing is definitely not respectable and will cost you some points on the classy factor. Use substitute words or phrases in place of the cursing; say these instead whenever you feel the need to express yourself.
  • R-E-S-P-E-C-T. This is the most important element when it comes to being classy. You’ve got to believe that you are worthy of respect and deserve it from others. Also, keep in mind that if you don’t respect yourself, then you can’t expect others to show the same respect to you.

Have goals for your life, be ambitious, stand out, take chances, but always remember to keep it classy. Follow these tips and you’ll be known as one of the classiest women on Kentucky’s campus!

In the immortal words of Coco Chanel, “A girl should be two things: classy and fabulous.”

"Sam I am," and I LOVE to read. Whether it's Jane Austen's "Pride and Prejudice" or The Mortal Instruments series, I'm always reading. And when I'm not reading, I'm writing; English papers, magazine editorials, you name it! Italian food is my favorite, shoe shopping is my addiction, and I hate cold weather. I'm also a proud member of Slytherin house (we're not all bad, I swear).
