What is college if you don’t party, right?

Wrong.

Many people think that partying/ drinking in college is a graduation requirement, but college is more than that.

Of course those shows that we used to watch in high school about college were amazing and made college seem so wild and fun, but no one looks pretty while they’re drunk.

Well, maybe to drunk people.

The college experience is an excuse for students to get together and drink alcohol until they pass out.

If you are someone who has nothing to do or you just want to get away from the party atmosphere then here are a few things that you can do that do not involve getting drunk:

·      Join a club or start your own. Having something to do will keep you occupied and away from alcohol. If you do not know what clubs are on campus or would like to start one you can go to http://getinvolved.uky.edu. There are plenty of student organizations that you may not know about, so head on over now and check it out. You can find out when the groups meet, what they do and you can find a link to accounts that the organization may have.

·      Another great resource for finding out about on-campus happenings is to check out the Student Activities Board website at http://www.uksab.org. There are always things going on on-campus and this is a great website to find out about them. The SAB hosts many events including concerts, they bring in speakers and comedians, they have pinterest parties, and many other fun events that you can find on their page. You can also go on over to http://uknow.uky.edu/calendar to find more on-campus events.

·      If you are a sports buff head on over to the Johnson Center with a few friends and climb the indoor rock wall, run the track or play racquetball. There is also a list of club sports on the Johnson Center website that you can find here http://www.uky.edu/campusrec/club-sports/current-clubs. If you would like to find a way to work out that is fun and free for students then you can check out the group fitness list. This schedule lists the times and days that each fitness group meets, the groups include zumba, yoga, cycling and plenty of others. You can find this list at http://www.uky.edu/campusrec/sites/www.uky.edu.campusrec/files/Spring%20Part%201%20GF%20Schedule.pdf.

·      If you do not really like to do activities or go to events then try going for a walk downtown. It is beautiful and worthwhile. The city is fun to explore and is close to campus, so it is not much of a burden to walk to. The best time to go is when it is warm and you have plenty of time, because you will get engulfed walking around for hours looking at the different parts of downtown. You can find a lot of restaurants and shops as well that you may want to try out.

If all else fails you can just stay in and watch a movie with your friends or play a board game. There many ways to spend your time having fun that do not involve alcohol or going to a party. Of course, going to a party is fun every now and then, but you may want to check your priorities if it is a regular thing.
